In both cases these were complete fabrications on Biden's part. They're tall tales, fish stories. And, they are hardly the only ones. Joke tells whoppers like these all the time. He lied about his college record, he lied about his travels on Amtrak. He's lied his ass off all of his life and now in the public eye, these lies are being brought under scrutiny like never before.

But People do listen to leader (generally) and parse their words rather carefully. You may have noticed tv talking heads champing at the bit for leaders to shut up so they can begin spinnng (analyzing) what was said.

If you want a perfect example look at how they respond to every syllable that Jerome Powell says every time he opens his mouth. a single word can send the stock market soaring or crashing just like that.
