Mott the Hoople
Sweet Jane
They could have just surrounded the island nation with ships and just use conventional bombing without a land invasion?!! No goods or material could get into Japan, it would be just a matter of time before they would surrender?!! The atomic bombs were over kill?!!
Considering more persons died during the conventional bombing of Tokyo than at Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined. Add to that a Naval Blockade would have insured massive numbers of death through starvation how would that have been anymore inhumane.
Ultimately it boils down to, as John Locke said, no one can govern without the consent of the governed.
It’s truly horrible what happened to the Japanese but it far less than the atrocities they committed against their fellow man. The fact that the Japanese people consented to this degenerate and corrupted form of Bushido made them responsible parties.
As such it required sanctions of the harshest kind to end the atrocities of conquest, murder and destruction that the barbaric Japanese Empire laid upon the feet of the world.
Given the staggering scale and scope of the crimes against humanity that the Japanese were blatantly and unapologetically guilty of they got off, by the end of the war, far, far easier than their victims did.
Had the Japanese people stood up against the degenerate corruption of Bushido by their ruling class of their nation, non of the calamity that fell upon them in righteous retribution would have never had happened and their over ten million victims wouldn’t of been killed.
Truman without equivocation made the absolute right decision and by ending one of the most cruelest and barbaric regimes in the harshest and fastest means possible saved an untold number of loves and lifted the chains of cruel tyranny by the Japanese Empires Fascism from the shoulders of untold millions the Japanese Empire eventually would have murdered had not we righteously brought it to an end.
I do not hold or harbor ill will towards the Japanese people today. I don’t feel it’s right or fair to blame the son for the sins of the father and long ago the Japanese people have rejected war and have stood by that and rejoined the brotherhood of man and for that I am glad and think kindly upon them.
That doesn’t erase the past though and the verdict of history is that the fascist Japanese Empire was one of the vilest in all of human history that deserved and received utter destruction.
