In an unexpected breakthrough, Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., reversed his opposition to quickly moving a broad filibuster-proof bill Wednesday and announced he will support a package that includes major investments in drug pricing, as well as provisions to address climate change and taxes on the wealthy.

This is great, I hope it goes.

It is unusual to see Mitch McConnell get out maneuvered, but its happening.

If passed, it would be the most ambitious American climate initiative ever

The bill aims to tackle global warming by using billions of dollars in tax incentives to ramp up wind, solar, geothermal, battery and other clean energy industries over the next decade. Companies would receive financial incentives to keep open nuclear plants that might have closed, or to capture emissions from industrial facilities and bury them underground before they can warm the planet. Car buyers with incomes below a certain level would receive a $7,500 tax credit to purchase a new electric vehicle and $4,000 for a used one. Americans would receive rebates to install heat pumps and make their homes more energy-efficient.

“This is the action the American people have been waiting for,” President Biden said, hailing the bill’s “investments in our energy security for the future.”

Senate Democrats estimated that the legislation would enable the United States to cut greenhouse gas emissions to 40 percent below 2005 levels by 2030, putting the nation within striking distance of the aggressive climate goals laid out by Mr. Biden last year.

My bet if it passes:

Inflation increases. The cost of energy increases. "Greenhouse gases" go down by a tiny fraction of what was projected. The cost of "going Green" spirals out-of-control. People still don't buy overly expensive battery cars. Joke and his Minions of Ignorance tell us that we aren't doing enough and more massive spending is necessary.

If this is "(T)he action the American people have been waiting for," then Biden wouldn't be hurtling towards being a one-term President.

What could be wrong with a bill that allows us to finally negotiate drug prices with pharmacies, or fast tracks our ability to produce vital electronics which we are now forced to buy from China? What could be wrong with a bill that requires a minimum corporate tax rate or actually pays down the deficit?

It'll be the government doing that and they have a pretty solid track record of fucking everything they do up. How's that for beginners?

it only strengthens the crony aspect of crony capitalism.

selective enforcement is the key for the corrupt.

I do not share your cynicism, which is obviously inspired by your hyperpartisanship.

The government has has been reasonably successful for decades at funding and implementing a national defense, an interstate highway system, a space program, a Medicare program, a social security program, etc.

Time to make up your mind, sweetie, There was a time when Republicans wanted smaller government, today they want it to control every aspect of your life. So, if government, as you say, screws everything up, why do you want more and bigger government.

Gardner is fine with a president Trump using violence to overthrow the government. That is where he is coming from.

More projection.

jesus h. phillilps.

Republican lawmakers are banning masks in schools. Iowa, Tennessee, Utah, Texas, Florida, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Arizona and South Carolina are prohibiting public schools from requiring students wear them.

Republican states are on the way to outlawing abortions. Texas has just banned abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, before many women even know they’re pregnant. Other Republican states are on the way to enacting similar measures.

Republican lawmakers are forbidding teachers from telling students about America’s racist past. State legislatures from Tennessee to Idaho are barring all references to racism in the classroom.

Republican legislators are forcing transgender students to play sports and use bathrooms according to their assigned gender at birth. Thirty-three states have introduced more than 100 bills aimed at curbing the rights of transgender people.

Across the country, Republican lawmakers are making it harder for people to vote. So far, they’ve enacted more than 30 laws that reduce access to polling places, number of days for voting and availability of absentee voting.

So the answer is to do nothing?
If this had been a Republican sponsored bill, you would be raving about the benefits.

On Gorebal Warming? Yep, best solution since the ones the radicals on the environmental Left want are all costly idiocy (and by extension those are the same ones Joke wants to try). As for who sponsored it? I could care less. Stupid is stupid, and the stuff in this bill is utterly stupid with a capital STUPID. Whirligigs and sunshine won't power a modern nation and trying to do so will only break the bank. We have proof of that from around the world now.
The latest radical Leftist environmentalist bullshit is now going after nitrogen emissions. Nitrogen makes up 80%+ of the atmosphere and these fucking retards think that human emissions of that will have some serious effect on the planet? They're fucking nuts! But it will lead to mass starvation and food shortages.
