I didnt know that Dinosaurs were a current POLITICAL event. Who knew :whoa: . Musta been democrats.

It's an article about current and newly-reported research in the scientific community, which has always been accepted here as current news and current events.

Yet the link says it is THREE years old. The story is from April 8th 2019. Doesnt sound very current or new to me.
 
The only thing that bothered me a little bit was the rancher charging fees for profit to allow access to the rock formation. Unless he and his family are starving, I don't know why one has to profit off key scientific findings.

You didn't say anything about the date in your first quote. You questioned whether an article about dinosaur research belonged in current events.

To pay for any destruction to property? Pay for upkeep of the road? To deter the amateur lookie loos? :)

Right, that's why I used the word "profit". Any money charged as fees that go above and beyond the cost of restoration of the site and property from digging and damages.

I could be misreading it, and fees are only being asked to cover damages.

God bless America! How do you know they aren't reinvesting the money for upkeep instead of just blowing it on beer and Ladies Hats?

To each their own. Unless I was starving, I would want to make a contribution to important scientific research, and would just ask that damages and expenses be covered.
Funding for paleontology research is extremely limited as it is, I see no need for me to make it more expensive for important Scientific research.
 
I just recently saw that movie about the English lady who allowed an archaeologist to dig a 6th century Anglo-Saxon ship burial site on her property. It is probably one of the greatest archaeological discoveries in Europe of the last century. Now, the movie didn't give the sense she was using the burial site to financially profit, beyond reimbursement for damage and expenses. She was excited to be part of the science, and be in a position to contribute. But the movie could have left out details about any profiteering she may have done?

True and there's no evidence that they aren't doing that in other ways.

Consider that I've given money to both Wounded Warriors and Salvation Army. Guess what find clogging my mailbox a few times a week? Most end up burned in my fire pit.

Maybe they gave and are now tired of having dozens of other groups with their hands out? Maybe they only give to one university and charge all the others? IDK.

We're agreed that science is a good endeavor, but it shouldn't cost people unless they want to give.

Good movie. Notice how many years it took Basil Brown to be recognized for his work? LOL

Also note that he didn't work for free. Edith Pretty, the landowner had the assets and the interest to make it happen. People gotta eat.

Did it cause you to lose some respect for the British Museum to give credit where credit was due for several decades?

Sorry. We seem to be completely agreed that dedicating one's life or assets to science is one of our most noblest endeavors. Not everyone agrees and I get touchy whenever someone edges close to "they oughta make them do it" territory. Sorry. :)

Good movie about people getting screwed over the ownership of, what Indiana Jones would say, "Belongs in a Museum". Which is where it is, but you'll see in the movie why it's controversial.

Nobody should get screwed over by others. Period.
