The question here is proportionality.
Disagreed. The question here is inalienable rights and overreach of the Nanny Staters.

Hello and welcome Turgid Member,
I normally acquaint newcomers with my own Personal Ignore Policy PIP: I like civil discourse. I will give you all the respect in the world if you respect me. Mouth off to me, or express overt racism, you will be PERMANENTLY Ignore Listed. Zero tolerance. No exceptions. I'll never read a word you write, even if quoted by another, nor respond to you, nor participate in your threads. ... Ignore the shallow. Cherish the thoughtful. Long Live Civil Discourse, Mutual Respect, and Good Debate! ps: Feel free to adopt my PIP. It works well.
If that is acceptable to you I thank you for understanding and hope we have many great discussions. If not, then we probably won't be talking long.
Thanks. Glad you can appreciate the sentiment.
As noted in the link below, suicide will take, on average, 131 lives in the US today. Suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in the US overall but spikes in certain demographics. Why don't the Democrats care? Why do they believe banning guns will same more lives than better mental health care?
IMO, they don't care about saving lives. They only care about control. Nanny Statism is a Democratic ideal: an all-powerful Federal government which dictates what Americans, think, believe and do "for their own good". "For the children". That is not the Founders had in mind when they wanted Freedom for all.

Nationally, the suicide rate increased 25.4% from 1999 to 2016, with increases occurring in every state, save for Nevada. In 2018, there were an estimated 1.4 million suicide attempts and more than 48,000 deaths by suicide, making it the tenth leading cause of death in the United States. Firearms were involved in half of all suicides, and there were more than twice as many deaths by suicide than by homicide.
Societal costs associated with suicide and suicide attempts were estimated at $93.5 billion. These costs include lifetime medical fees and lost work costs.....

I suppose your trolling and skanky hide doesn't care that Putin's b!tch tRump and his un American repukes co conspired to covid murder over 500,000 Americans until the lawlessly hacked in orange POS tRump was thrown out of the White House and along with this crimes humanity insurgency of gutter rot. Yet with a Democratic leadership over 100 million Americans have received anti covid vaccines and testing continues to be greatly in affect. I would thank God if all of you tRump sh!t eaters would finally make it all the way to hell as a burning experience and reward on both your worthless bodies and souls.
The focus of their agendas.
First, you have no idea what my opinions on healthcare.
Either offer a quote of my views or admit you're just lying again about people with whom you disagree.
Second, if Democrats really gave a fuck about saving lives, they'd be pushing "Medicare for All" instead of wasting political ammo on banning AR-15s and high capacity magazines.
Medicare for All would provide mental health services to every American, but you oppose it.
When you decide to stop spouting lies and delusional bullshit, we can talk. They are pushing Medicare for All; you centrists, moderates, and "very fine people" are the ones standing in the way, my dude.
I never said she didn't use a gun before. I said she'd made attempts, but you are free to leap to conclusions. Many Democrats do.
She was bipolar and had depression. She didn't like taking her meds. It caused problems, but what was there to do?
"Demanding the solution prevent all suicides is simply a logical fallacy". No shit. Where did I write that?.....or is this one of those Democratic springboard thingies again?![]()
Your argument is, "there's no way we can get to the Moon so let's not even try to fly". All I'm writing about is questioning the priorities of the Democratic Party and their members. You and several others have proved to me you are as fucking nutty, biased, bigoted and unwilling to discuss this topic as the worst Trumpsters are about Trump's four years of bullshit.
I worked some time as a Samaritan trying to help potential suicides think again, if they wanted help. It's their choice. Governments should ban guns because they can be used only for killing. If people are sure they want to die, assistance should be available.
When you decide to stop spouting lies and delusional bullshit
And you just ignored the fact that 3% of all suicide attempts are successful while 90% of firearm suicides are. Simple math shows that suicides would be greatly reduced if there was no access to guns. You are the one that is arguing that guns don't matter when it comes to suicide because you don't want to address the issue of how effective guns are when it comes to suicide attempts. Do you want to reduce suicides or not? Or do you only want to reduce suicides if access to guns is not part of any solution?
Written like a person who bows down to a monarch and comes from a nation that started slavery in America.
It's both a cultural and technological issue. Culturally, there's a stigma to mental illness. Mental screenings should begin in childhood and be as regular as annual physicals. This includes legislation that supports both individual rights and getting people the help they need.
Technologically, mental health science lags well behind physical health science. This begins as a funding issue, which goes back to culture, and continues as an area of research which needs a government boost like the Apollo program.
So then you support Medicare-for-All, which would extend mental health services to every single American?
The problem is to define mental illness (Stalin had no problems). Help for those who feel mentally ill should obviously be available, free.
I support a basic level of healthcare as a national security issue. Physicals and mental health screenings would be part of that program.
OTOH, if a person is identified as a paranoid schizophrenic or suffering early onset dementia, then what? A problem with most mental patients is they refuse treatment since they do not believe anything is wrong with them. What is your solution?
