your card is the color of a reservist. you were not a lifer. you did not wake up every day and work for the military for most of those 20 years, in fact, you only did it for 6 years. you are hiding the fact that the card is a reservist card by your hand.

In all the years I spent in I never once heard an NCO call his/her fellow noncoms lifers. Your scenario would more likely be as follows. (I'll use one of my old squadrons ) I stand up and say "A round of drinks for all these fucking slobbering dogs!"

No one said a thing about letting it bothering anyone. The point is it is a slur against career military people and to use it to describe ones own family members is an insult.

I think a lot of that is mostly different times of service and the service itself.

We agreed that there term is primarily used in a negative way like the N-word regardless how many times a rapper says it on his latest album.

I'll tell you a funny story about insults. Shortly after my return from Nam my bride and I went to a party one of her coworkers threw (all civilians). This one woman found out I had been to Nam. Well she cornered me and proceeded to call me a baby burner and all the anti war crap. Instead of getting offended I looked he in the eye and told her that I was very proud of those I serve with. She immediately said what could I possibly be proud of.

I then told her I was proud to be a member of the most destructive group of men the world has ever known. She left me alone for the rest of the night. LOL

It is way past time to get out of both countries other than diplomatic efforts, and when trump said he was going to do so I was supportive until he gave his timeline which was ludicrous and I realized he was not doing it for the military but purely for political reasons. My hope is Biden will get us out of the region but do it in a way that is safe for our troops.
The finished product well end up leaving Afganistan in the hands of the Taliban and Iraq as one big mess, not sure we did more good than damage, only history will tell.
