Biden freezes withdrawal of US troops from Germany

right in the article, 6400 would come home, and the rest would be moved about europe. that's literally what the article says.

The cold war is over, we won. What we have now is no where near the enemy that the soviets were.

look at defense spending alone.

Russia exponentially smaller in defense spending than us, and we have no reason to have any bases for the most part outside the US.

What war? the one biden will start to get us out of the coming recession when the covid bill is due, or when he feels our division is too great and starts one to unify us.

yemen or Iran I am thinking depending on how big they need to sell us on the threat,.

Umm you do know that it is the Repubs that push military spending the most right?
By the way, I agree we spend (waste) to much in military spending.

After Trump became president, his first Defense Secretary, retired Marine Gen. James Mattis, sought to reassure the world that NATO membership was the bedrock of American international power and influence, even as Trump continued to insist that other NATO members pick up more of the alliance’s financial burdens.

The tactic appears to have worked. NATO statistics released in November 2019, just ahead of the London Summit, shows Europeans and Canada increased their collective spending by a combined by 5.6 percent in the last five years. That includes a 1.7 percent in 2015, 3.0 percent in 2016, 5.7 percent in 2017, and about 4.5 percent each in 2018 and 2019.

From 2015 to 2019, non-US NATO countries increased defense outlays more than 20 percent to $302 billion, while US defense spending increased from $660 billion to $685 billion. In all, NATO members’ total defense investment could top $1 trillion in 2020. Today, while nine NATO-member countries meet or exceed the 2 percent target (including the US) seven are within 0.5 percent of the target, and all 28 have increased defense spending since 2014.

de coupling from Yemen means allowing Iran free reign on the Arabian Penninsula.
Not that providing logistics for KSA is a palpable alternative

KSA doesnt use an expeditionary army, and they are trapped being unable to attack the Houthi
( who fire across the border) and unable to pull out. Tiger by the Tail

Ammunition was available had it been needed, and you know it. The NG is not the same as regular Army, and we both know that.

oh and btw do you know what the logistics of carrying enough 5.56 for 25,000 troops would be?

175 tons.

no they would not be somewhere at the ready.

Agreed, Trump was a fucking LIAR. Those troops were going back on rotation. Thanks for the link.

Nearly 12,000 U.S. troops will pull out of Germany as soon as is feasible, the Pentagon announced on Wednesday, but the ones who will be stationed back in the U.S. may be called up for rotational deployments back to Europe.

Under the plan, troop levels in Germany would drop from 36,000 to just over 24,000, Defense Secretary Esper told reporters, with 5,600 of those re-positioned to other European countries and the remainder shifting to U.S. bases to be determined.

most of them way too long.

but they had nothing on them to load into thier guns.
Yes, it does. You claim their guns weren’t loaded, which I doubt is the truth, because they were authorized to use lethal force. They were prepared to do so. They don’t send troops in to use lethal force without loaded guns. It takes a very short amount of time to load a rifle.

Do they start them? Did FDR start WWII? Did Johnson start the Vietnam War? North Korea started the Korean War, the US came to South Korea’s aid. Did a Democrat start Iraq I or II?
Did a Democrat start the War in Afghanistan?

on iraq, our sitting president campaigned for and cast the deciding vote to go to war in iraq

Sorry, but Wilson wanted the US in WWI. Hitler should never have made it out of the box, but the Euros were too fucked up and thought appeasement worked.

FDR's actions contributed to our involvement in WWII in many ways, but the vast majority of blame goes on the aggressors; the Axis of Evil.

LBJ turned a group of advisors into a full war. Who sent the Marines to Da Nang in March 1965? LBJ. Then he ran the war from the WH.

I have a standing offer, I will donate 100 bucks to a charity of choice for the first person who shows me an image of a guardsman with a loaded magazine or a magazine on his plate carrier.

None of them were armed.

The only war “started” by the USA were “started” by Republicans. Words matter

Because I was a Unit Armorer in three different Mechanized Infantry Companies, so yes I know about the Logistics involved, and yes they can be handed it quickly, heck often the Platoon leaders already have them to distribute.

right. 175 tons? that shit stayed home.

Active or reserve? This isn't the first time we've used the guard like this. 911 comes to mind, all the guardsman guarding train stations n shit, all unarmed.

So let me ask you. how would you see the situation unfolding where all these guardsmen would have time to go run line up and get ammo? seems wierd to have them all there with carbines but no magazines. why not keep the carbines as well?

And thank you for your service brother!

bread and circuses, the "Army" which you mean the national guard, weren't even allowed ammo. some scary "insurrection" you got there when they feel they dont need to arm the guard,

Clearly- the scale and violence of the insurrection wasn't anticipated. Whoever refused ammunition probably isn't in his post anymore.
