Rep. Abigail Spanberger (VA-D) - Never use the words 'socialist' or 'socialism'

Who will win the Democratic civil war?

Yes. I've offered several Democrats who said so to bet me that there won't be a Gun Control bill on Biden's desk by next summer. None took me up on it. You and I both know why.

Most people on this forum know talk is cheap. I'll believe unity on the part of Democrats when I see it. Right now, not a single JPP Democrat believes Hillary is guilty of anything. If they can't acknowledge corruption in their own party, how can they honestly believe in unity?

Yes, most Democrats are hypocrites and a year's time will prove me correct.
You haven't told us what Hillary is guilty of yet.

How can a gun control bill be on Biden's desk with a R Senate?

That's the point. They don't want unity. Their definition of unity, much like their definition of compromise, is do what we want.

I tend to agree, but will give them the benefit of the doubt. Let's see how their Civil War works out....the one many Democrats deny exists.

Agreed: How you vote determines your outlook, but that's not the whole picture when given only binary choices.

Bernie is a Socialist. I know little about King except he was a long time Democrat. Like Trump and Ron Paul running on the Republican ticket, King probably became an Independent because it was politically expedient to replace Republican Snowe.

Again, titles mean nothing. How you vote does.

It would be like taking chicken shit, mixing it with all sorts of spices and condiments, then calling it chicken salad. How many would eat it?

I feel bad. You didn't offer to bet me. I don't believe though that there is going to be a gun control bill passed through both chambers. If we have another mass shooting, possibly then, but still very unlikely.

I don't know if she's guilty of anything or not. All I know about that is the (R)s investigated the holy crap out of both Clintons for literally DECADES, and came up empty-handed. At this point I just laugh at anyone who claims Hillary is corrupt. They're about on a par with the idiots who claim that Trump is not corrupt and was unfairly impeached on bogus charges.

I have the racist on ignore, but I get a good chuckle from anyone who cites Dems who were 'trying to tear the nation apart' because they refused to offer trump an olive branch.

trump governed for those who voted for him. He attempted to illegally punish Blue states for 4 years. His tax policy aimed directly at SALT deductions which affected states with high property taxes. Blue states.

How many times did he try, or threaten to withhold funding for Blue states? Citing unity as an option is laughable.

Yea...I was a tad surprised that Uncle jumped on that train.

Well yes. As I mentioned, the majority don't understand the complexities of M4, but they either want it or they don't. The M4 supporters think everything will be free, and the detractors think they'll lose their current 'free' insurance.

I think your plan is what a public option looks like. No? I want people to have the option to purchase lower cost health insurance. If a healthier demographic enters the Medicare program, it reduces their high risk demographic and helps with funding. It wouldn't entail hiking taxes on individuals, which is what Bernie's plan did.

I have no problem with removing the cap on wages (which is now at $132,000/year) when it comes to FICA deductions, but like you I don't want to see individual income taxes raised to fund M4A.

I wonder how much the current patchwork craptastic insurance scheme we have going now led to unnecessary COVID deaths? How many uninsured waited until it was too late to seek medical care because they couldn't afford it?

We're going to need years to get to the truth about the numbers. Those who were seriously ill went to the ER. They can't be denied no matter their insurance status, but it looks like many were Medicare patients.

We can question how many were denied access to care for other ailments due to overcrowding at hospitals, with no other avenues for care due to lack of insurance.

If the cap is removed for FICA, does that mean those paying at a much high income level are going to receive distributions proportional to those higher contributions or is it that you only want the latter without the former?

If someone died of COVID because they couldn't afford it, blame yourself. You claim to care about them. Why didn't you pay?

Yeah, I imagine given the spread through nursing homes and assisted living facilities, that Medicare has been taking quite a hit. A couple months ago I mentioned to Mr. Owl that private insurance companies must be hit hard too. He said no, just the opposite. People put off going in for routine things, elective surgeries were canceled for a while, so they were raking in the dough but not paying out as much for procedures, office visits, surgeries, diagnostics.

We can agree Trump is a fucking self-serving moron. When he dies, I'll make an effort to piss on his grave.

Then let's bet whether or not they'll try. Democrats can change their faces, but it's still the same soul underneath. ;)

I've never denied the Clintons were smart albeit unethical with Hillary being the real brains behind "Billary".

Thanks for proving me correct about Hillary; not a single Democrat condemns her for anything. She's a goddess to the lesser masses of Democrats.

Why do you refer to it as Civil War? Democrats have always been a big tent party, they don’t demand lockstep like the Republicans. The Nancy Pelosi branch has compromised with the AOC branch and will continue to do so. This is really nothing new in the party.

Frank is pissed at me over it on another thread:
Are you denying she deliberately violated classified material regulations?....or do you think she was just stupid.

If Hillary R. Clinton is such a wonderful person, why isn't she a Democratic spokesperson like Obama? Could it be that Democrats don't trust her?

Disagreements are one thing; threatening to ruin someone if they don't toe the party line, as Republicans have done for the past 25 years, is not "big tent" politics.

Who have the Republicans threatened to ruin if they "don't toe the party line"?

She's far from a goddess! I do have friends though who absolutely see her that way. I think she's pretty unlikable. Even so, she would have made a far superior POTUS to the orange mess we ended up with.

So just how IS she "corrupt" in your POV? What do you believe she's guilty of?

Yeah, that's always been one of the (D)s' problems -- getting a consensus between them is like herding cats. If they want to remain viable throughout the rest of this century, they had better stop promoting ancient centrists like Biden and start looking towards the younger candidates.

The Republican party waged a civil war on itself, the battle for the soul of the GOP beginning in the mid-90s. The result was the Party of Trump.

Now the Democratic party is in the beginning stages of a civil war of its own. Like inside the GOP, it's a battle between moderates and extremists. The extremists won in the Republican civil war. Who will win the Democratic civil war?

During a three hour Democratic caucus call Rep. Spanberger said “We need to not ever use the word ‘socialist’ or ‘socialism’ ever again. . . . We lost good members because of that.....If we are classifying Tuesday as a success . . . we will get fucking torn apart in 2022.

I agree with Spanberger.

An angry dispute erupted among House Democrats on Thursday, with centrist members blasting their liberal colleagues during a private conference call for pushing far-left views that cost the party seats in Tuesday’s election that they had worked hard to win two years ago.

Follow the latest on Election 2020
The bitter exchange, which lasted more than three hours as members sniped back and forth over tactics and ideology, reflected the extent to which the 2020 campaign exposed simmering tensions in the party even as its presidential nominee, Joe Biden, stands on the brink of achieving their biggest goal of the year — ousting President Trump.

Party leaders had expressed certainty that Trump’s divisiveness and mishandling of the pandemic would help them expand their majority with wins in GOP-held districts — and yet they lost at least a half-dozen seats and failed to retake the Senate. The explanation laid out by centrists, according to multiple people who were on the call and spoke on the condition of anonymity, is that Republicans were easily able to paint them all as socialists and radical leftists who endorse far-left positions such as defunding the police.
...

the dem party is over.
