I think we should all think before we speak because if we don't, those words can come back and bite us.

Remember Nadya Suleman’s statements about raising her children – all 14 of them on her own? How she wasn’t, and never would, take money from welfare? How about when she said she wasn’t ever going to take a single penny from any tax payers’ pocket? Well apparently she has forgotten all about them.

Even though she has stated she “doesn't consider the public assistance she receives to be welfare” the rest of the Country does! First off, she is getting $490 a month in food stamps: a number which will increase substantially with the new 8 children.

Then there is the money she collects on behalf of three of her children. Suleman told NBC that she receives the payments because one of her kids is autistic, another has ADHD and a third experienced a mild speech delay with "tiny characteristics of autism." She refused to say how much they get but Social Security payments in California can be up to $793 a month PER each child – if that were the case, she would be getting $2,379 per month!

Then we add in her disability payments which according to the LA Times, started as temporary but could be reassigned as permanent. The Times also reported she filed a second claim after she was in a car accident stating she would not have been hit had she not been seeking treatment from the first problem! There was no report on if she was able to cash in on that attempt.This is all for a young woman who stated to a judge she was so bad off she could barely get out of bed or care for her then ONE child! Of course on the NBC interview she leaned down and swooped up one of her older toddlers without hesitation and without a grimace or reaction. She seems pretty capable to me!

This is all the proof I need that we are living in a sick, insane country.
 
I think the important point is that welfare is more than just a check you get for doing nothing, it permeates more and more different and new facets of life in how you can get it.
 
Considering the huge outcry against this woman, I think its funny that one of the politicians on Washington said the american people don't care about pork.
 
I think the three posters who posted before me should be committed to prison camps for life, making the money to feed children. It's justice. They don't deserve life.

You CAN'T get a welfare check for doing nothing, you sick, disgusting, immoral, evil conservatives. The children cost a hell of a lot more than the penance the state gives her.

She already had 6 kids and no job. What the hell was she thinking trying to have more kids?

This is not an accident. This is her intentionally getting pregnant.

I will pay my taxes to go to help those who have fallen on hard times. But when you intentionally JUMP onto hard times, you are on your own.
 
I thought she was in line for a trough load of sponsorship and media deals? (although i can't say i've been avidly following this story)

Yes you can dolt, the only thing that changed in the 90's is that there is at least an expiry on how long you can get it.
You are just some overemotional fat kid who is learning about facts as he goes along.
 
It's interesting that the right looks at this story and fixates, to exclusion of all else, on whatever welfare she is getting. As if what this one person , who couldn't make a ripple, is getting matters.

The tragedy is that she is an obviously mentally disturbed woman who now has 14 kids to completely fuck up.

The further tragedy is that in our country, if you want cosmetic surgery, your doctor is ethically bound to consult with you first to ascertain, to the best of their ability, that you are psychologically sound and having the procedure(s) because you want to. In other words, if they should find that you are having your breasts enlarged because your husband called you a flat-chested ugly pos who he can't stand to look at, then they are ethically bound to recomment you have psychological counseling. If this is refused, an ethical surgeon will refuse to perform the procedure.

For cosmetic surgery.

Yet here we have an obviously seriously disturbed woman, who truly seems to believe she is Angelina Jolie (affecting her mannerisms even in interviews), who has 6 children already, and doctors implant her with 8 more! No questions asked! We'll do it, because we can do it. That's, a tragedy.

So you want to punish her children? Because that's what you're doing. You're not punishing her - the money the state is giving her isn't nearly enough to adequately care for all of them.

Good points. Did you know that she also has had cosmetic surgery? I saw the before and afters; she's had her cheekbones enhanced and her lips plumped (to look more like Angelina, perhaps?).

I'm outraged at a system wherein a physician would implant eight embryos (or any, for that matter) into a single, unemployed woman who already has six children, three of whom are disabled. Moreover, all pregnancies were also achieved by means of in vitro procedures (who did it and why after the first two, I'd like to know!) without checking not only her mental status but also her financial ability to 1) pay for the procedures and 2) care for those children, which she obviously cannot do. The doctors did apparently attempt to persuade her to reduce the number of fetuses but she refused.

A CNN article yesterday revealed that pre any of the current and projected medical costs, this woman is already $50,000. in debt! Damn, if I go for a routine diagnostic procedure I have to pay my portion up front and all my insurance info is checked and verified before my appointment is even made. How on earth did this slip through?


I have to have some accord also with the views of those who have expressed concern about the fiscal costs to society for this woman's blatant irresponsibility. Obviously it's too late to stop what she's already done, but at least close watch should be kept on the welfare of those children. Unfortunately, under the law there's no way to prevent her from producing more if she can find a way.

SHE is punishing her children. By giving her money through welfare, interviews or likely donations we are encouraging potential mothers to punish some more kids. Next it will be 9,10,11... this thing is going to grow like the number of blades in a razor. :)

The doctors should've refused the in vitro fertilization. It's quite clear that she's fertile and didn't need to undergo the treatment. It wasn't even profitable to them - she's going to have to file bankruptcy and they aren't going to get any money off of it. I have no idea why they would be so stupid.
