How much food does NYC grow?
The world is full of poverty stricken farmers desperate to sell to NYC, so NYC does not need to grow any. It would be a waste of NYC's time and resources to grow food.

I know your sense of entitlement makes you think that you have the right to money, and that because you live on cheap land you are a farmer. Neither is true. Farmers around the world are desperate to sell food, and they are not going to care if you are pissed off.

Now back in the real world, farmers in your area need customers. If they do not sell their produce, they will lose their farms very quickly. If they stop selling to NYC, NYC buys from somewhere else, and people in your area starve to death. Welcome to the real world.

When people get desperate, they get a lot less generous. I am sure that in good times, farmers have been very charitable with RB, but when it is either their family starving to death or RB, they will protect their family. Then in becomes who can provide the most money(resources) to buy food. NYC is the place through all the resources of the world flow. Literally, it is the financial center for almost all trade. RB is too poor to buy a few acres of very cheap land. RB is "retired early", because there is no job for RB.
There is a reason that cities almost never starve. Almost all the starvation happens in rural areas. The only exceptions are when war cuts off trade. NYC has one of the greatest ports in the world, and a population that can repel any sad Alt Right attempt to attack it.
I didn't compare land prices between rural and city areas. Nor did I compare income levels.
Face the facts, we farmers couldn't care less about you city scum. We will always survive

Farmers need resources such as fuel, fertilizer, machinery, pesticides, etc. They buy these with money. They get that money by selling to places like NYC. Then they use the money stored in NYC to buy resources from around the world through NYC.

I am. Lets say land prices around you are $4k an acre, and in Manhattan it is $400 million. Both you and someone in NYC has to sell an acre to try to buy food. They will bid $400 million for a ton of corn, and you will bid $4k for a ton of corn. I wonder who will get that ton of corn?
You are sure that farmers will give you food out of charity. When times are good, you may well be right. When people get desperate... Well, then farmers need to look after their own families, and not give you charity.

98% of production is everything but agriculture. Agriculture needs a lot of those resources to keep producing. Or put another way, the rest of the USA has 98% of the production of the USA to buy food from the rest of the world. The rest of the world is full of farmers desperate to get a good deal like American farmers have.
Do you know what African Farmers could do with the fertilizers, machinery, pesticides, etc that American farmers get? Australian farmers are hit hard by having to compete with the heavy subsidies that American farmers get from our cities. They would be overjoyed if our cities cutoff American farmers and started buying from them at market prices.
The reason we have money is because we produce things that people want to buy. We are productive. The reason you make no money is that you are not productive. You claim you have money saved away, but if money becomes worthless, that money is gone. Meanwhile, I will be earning the new money.
