Heart attack or asphyxiation?

It's been asserted the knee on the neck caused the death and that clearly was not the case.

Like with a choking person, if they can talk, they can breathe. His death was caused by an underlying medical condition.

This makes more sense.

It would take considerable pressure on Floyd’s neck for his airway to be obstructed by the cops knee. In fact, I’m not convinced it can be done without giving the victim a bad neck injury—perhaps even separating the cervical vertebrae and breaking the victim’s neck.

The airway is in the middle of the neck and the cops knee was on the side of his neck. IMO, you would have to break someone’s neck [or nearly break it] to strangulate them in that manner.

Not that this in anyway let’s the cop off the hook. It should have been plainly obvious that Floyd was in some kind of distress and they should have stopped but they didn’t.

The absurd/sad/predictable thing is all manner of conclusions have been jumped to over this before the facts came in. Including the assumption Floyd’s race had anything to do with it.

Amen to everything you wrote.
Something else bothers me as well.
I can't understand why the others all standing around filming and begging the cops
to let him up didn't dial 911 immediately for an ambulance. And, do it loud, right there...
right in front of the cops so that especially Chauvin could hear it. I bet they all would
have backed off Floyd fast and helped him up.

Most all regular folks know the signs of a heart attack. The shortness of breath, pain, etc.
Even it one can't be SURE at the time of witnessing such symptoms, most people play it safe
and call for help, get to the emergency room, take an aspirin, whatever.
How could FOURRRRRRRRRRRR cops not know or do anything CLOSE to this?

If Floyd was having a heart attack while this cop had him on the ground with his knee on his neck then maybe the cop should only get 20 yrs instead of life. To insinuate the guy was going to die anyway is fucking stupid, the cop killed him. You don't scream I can't breath and Mama if you are having a heart attack. The knee likely blocked the carotid artery and cut off blood to the brain so it is understandable asphyxia may have nothing to do with it.

You didn't watch the videos or read my comments either, I see......or the Probable Cause Statement.:palm:

The autopsy will determine the cause of death. In 2006 we had a similar incident involving a 14 year old black child named Martin Anderson. It appeared that the guards killed him during an altercation.

On March 12, Anderson's body was exhumed and a second autopsy was conducted by the coroner of Hillsborough County, Dr. Vernard Adams.[11] This time, the autopsy was attended by several other forensic pathologists as consultants to Dr. Adams. Dr. Michael Baden, New York State Police coroner, attended at the request of Anderson's parents and the NAACP.

So we will have to wait. But it does appear the cops over reacted and caused his death.

No question the cop killed the guy.

I just don’t think it’s possible to obstruct an airway with your knee on someone’s neck—without breaking their neck first.

rule of thumb

if you can talk, you can breathe

now why he was on the ground for that long will have to be answered

The combined effects of Mr. Floyd being restrained by the police, his underlying health conditions and any potential intoxicants in his system likely contributed to his death.”

Yup, Floyd would be alive today if it were not for negligent police.

guilty as charged

Well, if he had a weak heart AND was on meth—he might be alive today as well.

Not saying he was but the ‘potential intoxicants’ seems to suggest he was on something.

Here’s a hint: don’t jump into these things before all the facts are out. If more people would do that there might be less rioting.

We should check the NE Journal of Medicine, too...

No excuse.

Yes it's possible. The autopsy should tell us whether or not and to what degree of full pressure was placed there
or if if the knee was over the area due just to the cops squatting position.
I only say that because Floyd continued with heavy breathing and calling out until a single instant where it
seemed that all life had left him...like a heart attack.
The cop was compressing his right carotid artery with his knee and weight. The officer's weight compressed the left carotid against the concrete and that shut off blood to Floyd's brain. You don't live long with no oxygen to your brain.

MMMMMMMM,....I hear you,..BUT... I cant tell you how many times I have seen people fake having heart attacks or other medical conditions when getting arrested because they think it will help them avoid jail just by watching episodes of COPS or LIVE PD. Now imagine being an actual cop and think about how many times they have seen that ploy. They probably become so conditioned that they think everyone is faking. Gotta admit,... I can easily understand that. Having said all that.......still doesnt make it right. Are they guilty of murder? Nope,... not IMO, but....they are surely guilty of terrible negligence because without that negligence that man would stand a very good chance of being alive today...

Yes. Would have made a lot more sense to call for the ambulance. They already "had" him and could pursue
charges later on the counterfeit $20 bill if they wanted.

So in other words the media did it again.....They reported half the facts in a rush to judgement, got people all worked up, helped to cause a riot, which in turn gave them even more stories to report on. And people wonder why we call it FAKE NEWS....:dunno:

Always reminds me of the Eagles' song, Dirty Laundry.
"The boys in the newsroom gotta running bet...is the head dead yet?...get the widow on the set...give us dirty laundry."
