You might be surprised actually to hear me say this, but I agree with you and basically consider Trump to be a vindication of everything I have been telling conservatives on message boards for the better part of two decades.
Namely, that modern American conservatism was never based on CATO think tank economic schemes, it was never based on NAFTA-style corporate trade agreements, it was never based on Wall Street deregulation schemes, it was never based on the esoteric economic fantasies of the type that graced the pages of National Review, Heritage Foundation, and various and sundry elitist conservative insider institutions.
There was never a widespread constituency for any of that self-styled conservative mental masturbation. It was only the agenda of a small group of corporate overlords, Wall Street bankers, DC insiders, and the rightwing blogger elite.
Conservativism, at the national scale, was always about racial resentment, white Christian nationalism, and xenophobia. Period, end of story. And for the past two decades, self styled conservative message board posters would holler in protest whenever I pointed this out. Now it is out in the open for everyone to see: Trump is the end game, the natural and predictable consequence of modern movement conservatism. Basically vindicating what I have been telling teabaggers for years on end.
