You want to expand that practice to terminally ill people, giving them false hope and an excuse to take whatever the drug company propagandizes about their treatment. Secondly, there's no protection for consumers on the patents of that treatment, should it actually work. So drug companies maintain their exclusivity over the patent, and thus can charge patients and insurance companies wildly inflated rates, driving up premiums and forcing patients to spend out of pocket to hit their deductible.
