A Civil Discussion: Evolution, Science, Theology, Atheism, Climate

This is for you dishonest whiny asshats who hypocritically complain about civility from anyone who disagree with you; the civility left the forum on Post #8. Yet not a word from you two dishonest assholes.

STFU already. I grow weary of your dishonest whiny hypocritical bullshit on every fucking thread.

Are you convinced you are going to heaven, retard.

Animals have intelligence and to a limited degree, ability to reason & have empathy. They are guided by instincts.
Animals have 3 main concerns: eat, sleep, breed. They will fight to the death for all 3. They don't sit idly reasoning that others will deliver it to them.
If a wolf sees a bowl of rocks and a bowl of steak, they'll reason that the steak is what they need.
As for art, some animals can certainly be taught tricks (by humans)...singing, dancing, draw something, jump through hoops of fire, etc.

I've yet to see a pelican Picasso.
Although their works more closely resemble Jackson Pollock's,
Picasso would probably have disagreed with you.

Indeed they do. Many cetaceans have brain to body mass ratios comparable to or larger than humans. They have complex communication abilities as sophisticated as humans and in some respects superior and the also show a mastery of their environment that humans can’t compete in and social structures every bit as complex as humans including abstract concepts like family and heirarchy. The same is true of certain avian species, particularly the parotidae, who have comparable intelligence, adaptability, mastery of environment, communication skills, social structures, etc,.

The only thing where humans stand apart from other animals is the extent to which we use tools.

That’s not including plants either. Go visit a rain forest or the taiga forest and tell me humans are the dominant life forms there. You’ll be humbled real quick in your relative insignificance.

Mott, if I didn’t know any better I’d think you’re trying to baffle me with bullshit lol.

Look, I’m as humbled by nature as anyone but when whales develop 4G broadband networks get back with me.

Whew - that is one poor attempt to bring in social issues.

Sorry that we're not special.

I’m sorry that it still amazes me how you cling to that in spite of so many facts to the contrary lol.

I’m afraid the social ramifications are inevitable. If humans are just animals sooner or later someone will put that idea into practice.

Or do we need a thread on the vagaries and moral depravity of social Darwinism?

That you morons believe there is this father-like Creator of the Universe that has some personal interest in you is the height of arrogance.

Sooner or later humans will act like “just animals”? Just fucking priceless!

Well you just corroborated my point. What is 4G? It’s a tool. That is where we are unique from other species on this planet. Our capacity to create and use tools. Virtually all other attributes human have are shared in equal measure or exceeded by other species.

Yet with all our tools we are barely present in the oceans where we are poorly adapted. Oceans cover 75% of the earths surface? How can we be the dominant species when we are barely present on 75% of the planet?

You’re equating mastery of an environment with dominance.

Humans haven’t dominated the ocean only because we haven’t gotten around to doing it. In principle, there’s no reason why we can’t build habitable underwater environments—in fact, that’s not even a novel idea.

Whales? They’re highly intelligent—by animal standards lol. Will whales every dominant the land? Never, is an extremely safe bet. Can whales even conceive of land?

It’s probably debatable.

A Creator isn’t even the issue at this point.

It’s just a fact that humans are unique in important ways. I’ve been reduced to having to defend a fact lol.

Uhh whales were originally land animals who adapted to aquatic life.

The only thing debatable here is your vague use of the word dominance.

You claim that what are called facts today may not be true tomorrow if new facts are discovered. What that means is they never really were facts but mere claims.
That makes no sense what so ever. Facts are facts. Just because you discover new facts doesn’t mean other facts are no longer facts. That’s silly.

Ok, let’s try this approach.

SETI is searching for *other* intelligent life in the galaxy. Aren’t they tacitly conceding a distinction between animal intelligence and human-like intelligence?

No. It may have excaped your notice but humans are animals and, to state the obvious, it’s highly unlikely that intelligent life outside our planet is human-like.
