Ben Shapiro speaking at Cal

The flaw in Waco's argument is he is blaming liberals for the high cost of living in Cali. It's a specious argument.

1) government always carries the largest share of the blame the high cost new housing.....they don't really WANT low income housing because it doesn't generate as much tax revenue as expensive housing....
2) government in California is primarily lib'rul....

Most definitely.

Why? Taxes are an obligation based upon published rules. I haven't heard that he ever failed to pay what the rules dictate he pay. If he has a personal opinion that he should pay less, is he also a hypocrite for paying what is required? Would your answers be different if you knew he has given billions in charity to the Gates foundation? He is clearly not lacking in the eleemosynary dpt. You think he should just cut some random numbered check he pulls out of his ass and pay it to spare himself you claim to hypocrisy for the cardinal offense of sharing his opinion that taxes are too low on the uber rich?

Hope you are more intelligent than that.

Man bless TTQ64's heart. She said her sister has worked in real estate for 40 years yet she (not her sister) has no clue how real estate markets and regulations work.

Ignorance is bliss is almost too cliche here

Please explain how land use laws, zoning, and environmental laws exist outside of politics and policy.
What makes you think that Those laws would be substantially different given a different political party was in control?

Do you really think if Republicans were in control that they would change State and local laws that create enough new housing construction that would meet demand enough to lower housing cost?

well, to be honest, zoning laws DO cause the high cost of housing.....and the high cost of housing is an immediate factor in causing poverty.....
Yes high population density and high demand and limited land in the coastal areas would have nothing to do with it and the desire of local residents to preserve existing quality has nothing to do with it.

Zoning laws? And here I thought it was location from the beach, lot size, sq footage, schools, views, and CC dues.
That's the flaw in Wackos argument. He's arguing that if Republicans were in charge they would magically create an economic incentive to change those local zoning laws. I don't buy that.

I'll offer you a couple of responses to this.

1) republicans and Democrats love to compare Texas and California, so I'll do that here. Why do you housing prices in Texas stay relatively cheap even with all the growth that they had? Because they encourage and allow new development. So when prices start to rise developers start to build bringing prices back down. We don't do that in California.

2) what do you Democrats say Republicans always want to do when they take office? Two of them are reduce environmental regulations and to deregulate. Research California's CEQA environmental law and howbit is used as a weapon to stop development. And compare the cost and amount of time it takes to get project approval in CA vs Texas for instance. That can be changed.

high population and high demand (same thing actually) would not be a factor if there was also high supply......land is limited by how many units you can build per acre (otherwise known as zoning).......as for coastal areas, you realize that there are housing shortages in eastern Los Angeles as well as Malibu, right?......in essence "desire of local lib'rul residents to preserve the "existing quality" (otherwise known as NIMBY) is what Cawacko is talking about......

I don't believe that is his argument......I believe his argument is that lib'ruls are hypocritical since California shows they have no more concern for homelessness than any one else.......

The irony here, from a political perspective, is democrats often accuse republicans of having a "I've got mine screw you attitude"

Well the "preserve existing quality of my neighborhood" attitude is the ultimate I've got mine F you yet it's Democrats in this case who hold it

Uh, yeah, that's exactly what he should be doing. He wants taxes to be higher, but won't put his money where his mouth is. If he wanted taxes to be lower, he should be working to lower them, not stupidly hurting his cause by breaking the law.

Capitalism, free markets and greed is why housing prices are so high in this nation. Its real estate jackass' like dump who drive housing prices up to make a profit. Racist white men have been redlining and producing segregated city's, and sundown towns for decades and you want to try blame progressive liberals. GTFOH with that nonsense.

Why didn't republicans do something about these "disasterous zoning laws" when they were in office in CA?

And just so you know, your argument is right in line with those on the racist right. It's a argument to deflect from the truth.

Once again, you are defending the right.
