Trump calls removal of Confederate monuments 'so foolish'

That's a lazy counterpoint.

As I said, my comparison is that the both fought for an evil cause. What about that is hyperbolic?

The ONLY way to see that as hyperbolic is if you do not see slavery as evil.

Slavery was the primary cause of the CW---not the only.

I can't think of a single thing the Nazis were fighting for that wasn't perverted. The analogy is sort of perverse and ahistorical actually.

There was no Goebells on the Confederacy side and surely no Hitler or Himmler. No gas chambers, no genocide.

No comparison.

Our history is our history. It is not being "ripped apart" by removing a statue that celebrates someone who was a leader in the fight to preserve slavery.

The drama. Why does Trump care about he confederates? In his own parlance, they're LOSERS.

Great point!

they both fought for their homeland, not an evil cause

very few soldiers have ideology in their hearts when they fight

they fight becuase they are attacked or to defend their homes or because their leaders order them too

i suppose you say US soldiers in Vitenam fought for an evil cause

did you spit on them and call them baby killers?

their crime was losing

you don't get to have alternative history facts

"they both fought for their homeland, not an evil cause"

Unbelievable. To Nazis, fighting for the homeland included ethnic cleansing. That is as evil as it gets. Have you never heard the term "lebensraum"?

Great point!

american indians are losers who lost their land to US troops

mexicans are losers who lost a war to US troops

english are losers who lost a war to US troops

shall we deface all memorials to them & rename every place and building named for them

because they are losers?

or is it just white southerners who deserve that?

I can't think of a single thing that the CSA was fighting for that wasn't perverted. The Confederate society was one of the most degenerate of the past 500 years. Obviously, their own statements in the secession documents called for defending a racially ordered society, which is more than simply a defense of slavery.

The right to secede is perverted lol?

Arguments for and against secession can be a little complicated. But I've never heard of anyone saying it was perverse along the lines of shipping Jews off to Auschwitz.

That seems a little off the wall.

i suppose you didn't know this

Under the Conscription Act all healthy white men between the ages of 18 and 35 were liable for a three year term of service. The act also extended the terms of enlistment for all one-year soldiers to three years. A September 1862 amendment raised the age limit to 45, and by February 1864, the limits were extended to range between 17 and 50. Exempted from the draft were men employed in certain occupations considered to be most valuable for the home front, such as railroad and river workers, civil officials, telegraph operators, miners, druggists and teachers. On October 11, the Confederate Congress amended the draft law to exempt anyone who owned 20 or more slaves. Further, until the practice was abolished in December 1863, a rich drafted man could hire a substitute to take his place in the ranks, an unfair practice that brought on charges of class discrimination.

They weren't really fighting for secession. If the CSA hadn't attacked America, do you think we would have ever tried to force them back into the country?

They needed to ensure that slave owners were able to control the slave population.

Wars are rarely if ever so Cut and Dry they are fought for one singular reason.

The right to secession was absolutely in the mix.
