Well the only roads out by my mountain retreat are dirt and there is no fire department within miles. If my retreat catches fire it just burns to the ground. No ambulance either.

You can blame Jefferson for that ruling, because, if the court had ruled in favour of Marbury, Jefferson was just going to ignore the court's ruling. Marshall knew this, so he established the long-term legitimacy of the court by ruling the way that he did.
