Gerrymandering effects Congressional races. It can have no impact on at-large voting, such as senate and presidential elections.

ID laws can only be beneficial to an election.

lol..i've cooked up some tall tales to explain my losses ( headache/pieces were sticky -non tournament standard/creaky chair/opponent was too disgusting to deal with) but I've not attempted to recreate Fishers paranoia!

It was the will of the majority in the states that would have determined the popular vote winner. Intelligent people often give up an advantage to get a greater advantage. First, many in the crowded states wanted to move out to the wide-open ones. Second, others wanted a bigger and stronger country (Manifest Destiny) and were willing to give up an advantage in Congress and the Electoral College to get that. Third, the wisest ones realized that enabling their own states to dominate the country would only benefit the oppressive ruling class in those states. Although the leaders wanted to imitate the elitist British aristocracy, we, the people, did not.
