Donald Trump Praises Saddam Hussein

Me too and I find the idea of him as President terrifying. I personally believe he would be impeached early on, they'd have to do something to get rid of him IMO, but who knows.

Yeah, it's scary. People are too dismissive of what kinds of issues his temperament alone might cause. It would be such a surreal Presidency, and a real low for America any way you slice it.

I hadn't thought about impeachment, but you're probably on the right track. He is already a huge problem for the GOP. As Prez, he'd probably cost them Congress for a generation.

Would that be a bad thing?

And he doesn't need to be elected to have that effect, does he?

I don't see how they can distance themselves from him enough in this election cycle to escape the taint of Trumpism.

His coattail could be the kiss of death. Lots of Republicans are already eying the exits.

I think we'll see a full-blown Nuremberg-style really in Cleveland.

During a rally in North Carolina Tuesday evening, Donald Trump again praised Saddam Hussein, saying the former Iraqi dictator “killed terrorists.”

“Saddam Hussein was a bad guy, right? He was a bad guy, a really bad guy,” he said. “But you know what he did well? He killed terrorists.” Trump, who has previously called the Iraq War “one of the worst decisions in the history of the country,” added that Iraq is now “Harvard for terrorists.”
100% absolutely correct. Saddam went after any type of Islamist insurgent - including but not limited to AQ

He also killed thousands of his own people essentially claiming they were terrorists as well. Saddam is pretty high ranking in a list of worst people of the 20th century. I'm not sure why Trump needs to reference him (and Tiananmen Square in China) as examples of how we should be tough on terrorists.

Still, it’s not the first time Trump has lauded the former dictator. Last October, Trump told NBC’s Chuck Todd that the Middle East would be better if Libya’s Muammar Qaddafi and Hussein were still in power. And in February, Trump said that “whether you like Saddam Hussein or not, he used to kill terrorists
absolutely 100% correct -unlike Hillary who backed the Iraq war -and destroyed Libya turning into a failed terrorist state.

Qaddafi was an allie on GWOT ( global war on terror). The Republican "establishment -like the Democrats still believe in interventionism;
as does Clinton still defends her "smart power" over Libya.

Qadaffi's warning on Ansar al-Sharia $ and ISIS in Libya:

Before he was overthrown and killed, Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi warned jihadists would conquer northern Africa

Al-Qaeda considers all the people to be infidels,” Mr. Gaddafi declared in a speech weeks before NATO began its military intervention in Libya. “They deem all people their enemies. They know nothing but killing.”

The Islamists would pour in from Afghanistan, Algeria, and Egypt, he warned, saying, “These are beasts with turbans.”

His base loves it that is why, even though they were the knuckleheads who supported the invasion of Iraq.

Interesting that Trumptards really seem to love murderous authoritarians.

Their Führer seems to know what resonates with his base.

I'm guessing that a lot of Trumpzis had daddy issues.

In terms of whether we shold have over-thrown Saddam or not -absolutely 100% the Iraq war was/is a colossal failure.
It's how ISIS came into being - beforehand the Baathists/Saddam were content to kill Kurds, and run a rogue regime.

Now Iraq is a colony of Iran -fractured and a" jihadist wonderland" ( Rand Paul) as is Libya.
We did this.

I always take those polls w/ a grain of salt. There is definitely a "rally 'round the flag" effect as soon as a decision like that is made.

The GOP base & right-wing talk radio were the true cheerleaders.

Everyone else just fell in line for fear of being called traitors and unAmerican, we didn't care! I am proud of us!

Remind me, did the US invade Iraq and Afghanistan because they were responsible for 9/11, because they had WMD, or because we are noble liberators who spread democracy?

I can't recall all the excuses.

Maybe Blabo can supply the rationale while he defends his Führer's shout out to Saddam.

Me too. That was a rough time. Traitors, terrorist-sympathizers, Bin Laden lovers. We were all on the "wrong side of history."

Now, it's amazing to me how dismissive most on the right are of the fact that it's universally recognized as a huge blunder. Collective amnesia on their part. They should all buy a Dixie Chicks album as penance.

Nothing has changed.

If you aren't in favor of destroying Americanism to pander to fear and xenophobia, you're called the same names by the same people.

I had two family members confront me, I remember standing up to both of them and telling them that I would be vindicated by history, my brother in law told me I lived in LaLa Land, funny, neither has ever apologized to me and I have never said, "I told you so", it just felt good to know that I wasn't living in La La Land. ;) although there are times that I am sure I put a foot over the line

I also know I believed Hillary when she said she was lied to by Bush, his administration wanted war but they told Democrats that he was only using it as leverage to get Saddam to allow the inspectors back into Iraq.

“If we get the resolution the president seeks, and Saddam complies,” Clinton added, “disarmament can proceed and the threat can be eliminated. … If we get the resolution and Saddam does not comply, we can attack him with far more support and legitimacy than we would have otherwise.” This international support is “crucial,” she added, because, “after shots are fired and bombs are dropped, not all consequences are predictable.”

I have done a lot of soul searching since I realized that Bernie wasn't going to be the nominee on voting for Hillary, she isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but I also do not think that she is the evil, heartless succubus that some here portray her as. I would rather have the imperfection I know then a crazy narcissist that is Trump.

Wait a minute, calm down.

Is there anything wrong with Trump's statement? He said he is a bad guy, but he is absolutely correct about his statement that he was good at killing terrorists.

Seriously, I have seen many lefties say that we should have left Iraq alone with Saddam in charge. There are so many negative things to hound Trump on, but this kind of bullshit is petty. Then again, it did come from out most petty member.
