the minimum wage: reality check

Repugnant Republicans have been prophesying doom since minimum wages laws were first proposed, haven't they?

And you're closed minded and mathematically impaired. You're basing your arguments on a false premise. No one would be getting something for nothing. You would have to work full time productively or be fired like anyone else. Why is this an objectionable idea when there is no net cost to employers?

There is a cost to employers. That you don't understand business is not my fault.

Someone making $15/hr today that made $7.25 yesterday isn't doing any more for that wage. Are you saying that a full time fast food worker making the $7.25 minimum wage today is going to be doing more as a full time fast food worker making $15/hr tomorrow? How much more are they going to produce?

They're not helped. They're getting something for doing nothing more. Handing someone something for nothing doesn't help them. It teaches them all they have to do is whine to get support of bleeding hearts that feel sorry for their lack of skills.

Actually it is. You just want to focus on income tax and not total taxes. That's illogical.

what agenda other than to increase standard of living and employment at no net cost to business?

Bleeding heart agenda. There is a cost to the business. If you don't think so, you're the last one to claim you know something about running one. '

The fast food worker has to make the time.

I did. I got two additional undergrad degrees, plus two graduate degrees working full-time or part-time for minimum wage.

It's all about desire. If they want it bad enough, they'll find a way.

Good thing there was a minimum wage for you to rely upon huh zipperhead?

Sad part is those supporting social welfare today use the government to mandate it when that's not needed. If YOU believe someone without food, clothing, shelter, healthcare, etc. deserves it, find them and meet their need. You won't. You go about supporting the government mandating someone you think should do it to be forced to do it.

When all you bleeding hearts empty your pockets voluntarily when it comes to things you support, get back to me about being mandated to do it.

There's more to it than that. We can't just let these people starve, not a politically sound alternative, nor is it smart to not incentivize these people to not have a work ethic. If these people are motivated to work full time it's pretty damned short sighted to not encourage them. The low wage and no other available jobs can be a trap into dependence. It's madness to have someone motivated to work full time and still be dependent on the government. It disincentivizes and demotivates. It's equally mad to shift this societal burden on small business owners.

How about this as a solution. A two tiered minimum wage. $9/hr for part time work of less than 25 hours per week. $15/hr for over 25 hours per week. For every dollar over $9/hr that employer pays in wages he receives a one dollar reduction in the taxes they owe up to the $15/hr min wage.

The small business owner won't have to carry the burden and the extra income will be spent causing an economic stimulus and thus more tax revenue.

As it is employers keep hours down to avoid paying benefits. Dumb idea Mott.

not necessarily true. What if we give the business owner a equivalent reduction in their taxes? Net some cost to them would be zero.

Not only that but it would save the government funds spent on assistance and it would create an economic stimulus. That means less people dependent on government, incentivizing work ethic and growth in the economy.

Or we could just raise the fucking thing.

So you say. Has the cost of living exceeded minimum wage growth since these purported success stories took place?

I desire that you prove that you got two additional undergrad degrees, plus two graduate degrees working full-time or part-time for minimum wage without any other assistance, like your parent's money, scholarships, subsidized student loans, etc.

I'll understand if you can't find a way.

If someone wants to do something, they'll find a way; if they don't, they'll find an excuse. YOU support the excuse makers.

I would have gotten paid the same or more anyway. If you don't know how to prove your worth and negotiate your pay, that's your problem, not mine.
