A&E suspended Phil Robertson

making heros of simpleton redneck honey boo-boo klansmen is something the right uses to influence their not-so-smart followers. Remember G.W.B? Same thing.

Here's the thing...they (the Robertsons) claim to be followers of the Bible and are members of a fundamentalist religion. What did A&E expect he would say?

Doesn't matter, they didn't like it, it is bad for business, they are a business, they decided to suspend their contract with him. It wasn't just the homophobic comment that was offensive it was the comments about blacks as well.

"Robertson also told GQ his family has lost its privacy since they were thrust into the limelight as the stars of the hit show, but it was well worth it because the series has given him a platform to spread his religious beliefs.

“For the sake of the Gospel, it was worth it… All you have to do is look at any society where there is no Jesus. I’ll give you four: Nazis, no Jesus. Look at their record. Uh, Shintos? They started this thing in Pearl Harbor. Any Jesus among them? None. Communists? None. Islamists? Zero. That’s 80 years of ideologies that have popped up where no Jesus was allowed among those four groups. Just look at the records as far as murder goes among those four groups.”

Still, he doesn’t expect his fame to last forever.

“Let’s face it, three, four, five years, we’re out of here. You know what I’m saying? It’s a TV show. This thing ain’t gonna last forever. No way.” "

Their ratings were already down from last year, which makes me a little suspect about all of this! lol

Am I the only one who sees fox as a perfect fit for the duck boys.

These cons think the coroporate media cares more about a social agenda than profits.

actually, his comments were not ON A&E... his comments were in an article for GQ. Yet A&E decided that he doesn't have a right to make comments about his beliefs and subsequently suspended him.

They are a business and it was a business decision. Doesn't matter if it was on their show or not, it is a reflection on A&E and they do not share his bigoted views.

I said if someone interviewed a Muslim about his opinions. I said nothing about whether they would have a TV show or be stars.

So your hypothetical is whether "the left" would be as upset about a random Muslim saying offensive things as "the left" is about a star on the most popular television show in America saying offensive things? Well, I guess that hypothetical is at least within the realm of possibility, which is good, but it's really, really stupid.

As you read through the thread I'm sure that you have found that I absolutely agree with you, but I just wanted to make one small correction that I just die to make every time this sort of discussion comes up.

For the sake of discussion what if we took this one step further and find the rest of the family agree with Phil's views but don't come out and say it in an interview like Phil did. Would that be grounds to cancel the show?

Just imagine if a Muslim had been asked his views on homosexuality. The answer may have been very similar, but would the left in this country have had the hissy fit they are throwing for Robertson?

I don't agree with Phil's opinion, but he has the right to state his religious beliefs.

He sure does, but he also has the right to suffer the consequences for his words.
