Gas Prices

Prices have increased a bit in the near term, but aren't too high as a general matter:

When you commute 100 miles each day gas costs add up. It's not cheap. This is where I need Topspin to come in and make fun of me for being poors.

100 miles? Daaaaaaaayyyummmmm:

San Francisco to Napa. Not all that enjoyable. Of course there are plenty of people who commute further than I do so I can't really complain. It's just me, my stereo and NWA running along next to me.

100 miles is pretty much the average commute for many of my working neighbors. It's the price they're willing to pay though.

Is it just Cawacko you can do that with?

Well, when it comes to pretty much any pop culture reference cawacko and I seem to have similar tastes (or exposure) and it makes it pretty easy to be honest.

Legion Troll thanked a post of mine once. I didn't see that coming.

Just look at Exxon's profit margin and you will have your answer, they will charge as much as they can get away with charging. This is not about supply and demand.

I walked to work today.

Wow, I find myself agreeing with Jarod again. Will wonders never cease? ;)

I'm blessed (pronounced bless-ed, not blest). My commute consists of a ten minute walk (not over the Mass Ave. bridge, cawacko, you nut) a twenty minute train ride and a ten minute walk (or subway ride, depending on the weather).

Yeah he thanked one of mine the other day, in the middle of about 50 groans.

10 minute drive. And I still bitch about traffic because they are doing construction on vets hwy. lol You just get used to it, and then you get spoiled.

To proclaim Bush levels as the peak that occurred during a two month spike is quite dishonest.

Just about as dishonest as those who talk about how much more gas is than it was the day Bush left office, while technically true that was a function of the crashing economy.

Ok, but, like, why didn't prices go back to where they were when the restrictions were put back in place and, like, why did prices begin to increase before Obama was innaugurated?

Also, too, if you look at the long-term price trend below and conclude that prices below where one would expect them to be if you extrapolate the pre-crash curve are "sustained high prices" then you're an idiot.

Looks a lot like the same type of chart for the DOW, don't it?

If you are talking the steep decline part, then yes, though gas's sharp fall occurred months ahead of the S&P's sharp collapse in Oct. 2008. S&P was also on a declining pattern after Oct 2007, whereas gas saw a steep incline in late 2007 until July of 2008.
