I take it your definition of civilized is coercing those that don't want coverage to buy coverage at gun point? And your definition of civilized is forcing a private company to cover those that are a net loss for them?

Civilized means having the government take our money and then tell us we are getting 'free' care.... no matter how much money they have to take from us, the care will be 'free'.

How so? They just changed who is paying for it. Not how much they are paying for it.

Also... under the Government, it will more than likely be future generations that pay for us, not us. As the government will run up the debt to pay for the promises Obama & Co. have made to us.

~30+ million americans are going to be forced to purchase insurance, and those that can't afford it will be subsidized by the government, and you think you are trimming the profits of insurance companies? Insurance companies are ecstatic over this. You are supporting coerced support of big business.

Societies claim to have the right to make laws is not merely based on power. Society has a right to make laws that are for the benefit of society. It is for the good of society. It is justified in doing so. If you fail to abide by them, you will be held personally responsible, true. What on Earth is wrong with that? If you disagree with such a basic notion, you disagree with the concept of civilization itself. You just want us to be individual little insects roaming around the wilderness and shooting guns at each other while beating our chests.

There are good reasons to mandate health insurance, and there are good reasons to force companies to cover everyone, no matter their level of economic impoverishment. That is civilization. The alternative, which you apparently favor, is barbarism.

Please explain to me why the government cannot demand that the insurance companies cut out waste and inefficiencies especially regarding prescribing unnecessary medications.

You can 'take it' any way you want or need to; it doesn't matter to me what you think of my definition. Single payer, universal health care where everyone is covered from cradle to grave is civilized. Obscenely rich pimps masquerading as 'insurance companies' and doctors living like emperors while millions go without basic care because they can't afford it is uncivilized.
