Corona Virus Peak Watch Thread

We opened up schools and businesses and the result has been a huge surge in cases and deaths.

Hospitals are becoming overwhelmed.

We are nowhere even CLOSE to herd immunity.

Our situation is bad.

People think if they haven't gotten sick that means it is OK to ignore the guidelines.

That is no doubt getting other people killed.

The restrictions that are being put into place in some regions are going to have to be expanded.

I have been watching the number of deaths per million steadily climb. It began at zero when the pandemic first appeared in the USA earlier this year.

Now it is up to 875 deaths per million.

When it reaches 1000 deaths per million that becomes easy math.

That will be the moment when 1 in a 1,000 Americans will have died from the coronavirus.

Another 1,554 Americans died yesterday.

The graph of deaths is becoming steep just in time for Christmas. I hope all the families who got together over Thanksgiving gave Nana and Pop-pop a good hug because, for many, it will be their last.

My wife wanted a big Thanksgiving because her sister is undergoing esophageal cancer treatment and the prognosis isn't good for a full recovery. I was against it. "It could be the last Thanksgiving the kids see their Aunty Gail" my wife argued. "If you have a big get together, it will most certainly be her last Thanksgiving" I shot back. We just had a small Thanksgiving with her sister's son and us. A few days ago my wife's 40 year old daughter (with 3 kids out of 5 still at home) tested positive for COVID.

Being a certified Arrogant Asshole, I have to point out that it's always been real. The Spanish-American War probably wouldn't have happened if not for the power of propaganda. Maybe the Civil War wouldn't have happened either, at least not the way it worked out, without the power of propaganda. Obviously there are several 20th century examples.

EDIT: perhaps Chief as some insights on this topic.

We all think this is all new just because it is new to us.

History always put me to sleep in school.

Now it is a huge wake-up call.

It did me too. I didn't start appreciating history until my late twenties.

This may surprise some, but I didn't pop out perfect. It took over 40 years to hone me into my present charming and witty self. :)

So hopefully, more trumpanzees will die.

I would scour the voting rolls and not give the new vaccines to anybody but registered democrats or socialists.
Independents would have to prove that they voted for Bernie or Liz.
It's the moral thing to do.
It's the decent thing to do.
Really, it's the only sane thing to do.
