Corona Virus Peak Watch Thread

Another 48K new cases again yesterday.

And the number of Active Cases is going up.
The number of Republicans infected should spike over the next week. I expect those who attended the Sturgis rally are also reaping what they've sown.

Hello Darth,

Nope.

At the time of the shutdown/lockdown/whatever, the virus wasn’t prevalent in WV AND IN A LOT OF OTHER PLACES.

Proof of that? We opened up and literally nothing changed. It wasn’t until late summer till we had big push in numbers. Well after, the mask mandate.

Nothing has changed for all those people who don't know someone personally, or have battled this disease in their own home, themselves, or a family member, or worse, lost a loved one forever.

But for those who have been personally impacted with this disease? Their life has most certainly changed.

Everyone changes their tune when it hits close to home. Until then it's no concern, 'overblown,' etc.

Who was it, a while ago? Was arguing that the USA had a real low Cases Per Million?

At that time it was only about 215 cases per million.

Now it's up to 1,396.

Yeah.

We don't hear that argument any more.

Went away just as fast as that argument about it being 'just like the flu.'

“We don’t hear that argument anymore”

Since when does total refutation prevent them from repeating an argument?

Hello Dutch Uncle,

Seeing what happens to Trump et al this week will help or hurt the effort to contain the plague.

One thing it did was to bring the focus of the news cycle right back to the pandemic. That's why Trump tried to put on the 'it's all over' show yesterday. That could bit him in the posterior.

Hello Micawber,

When they cannot refute math because the numbers don't lie.

It's like the 61 cases. We don't hear that argument any more.

And we don't hear the one about 15 cases going to zero.

That's the last thing they want to hear.

It reminds them of how wrong they were to believe in Trump.

The latest polls show it's not working for him.

I'm curious to see how things develop towards the Ides of October. In Trump's case, maybe even by Friday could be revealing.

Serious and Critical Cases took a bad leap yesterday.

That does not bode well for the overall numbers in the coming weeks.

People are fighting for their lives and the president tells them in a made-for-hollywood moment to simply 'Don't let it dominate you.'

I'm sure if they could think it away they would gladly do so.

What about people who had their cancer screenings delayed and it cost them their lives? Many of them, much younger than the average age of COVID mortality—nearly 80.

Collateral damage?
