Corona Virus Peak Watch Thread

Almost 60K New Cases yesterday.

Nearly 1000 dead.

The tragedy goes on and on.

The virus is coming on strong because we are letting it.

We could take more steps to prevent that, but we just have too many people who think the economy or political points are more important than the lives of those who are being lost. People like that tend to change their minds as soon as tragedy happens to them or somebody close to them, but until and unless that happens, they don't care about their fellow Americans.

We could put this thing away if we were united.

The pandemic clearly shows it is an American weakness to be bitterly divided politically.

The nations with a unified response are doing much better.

Stop hating on your neighbors, people. They are people just like you who have every right to exist that you do. People everywhere have the same basic needs. We all want a good life. That shouldn't depend on disregarding the rights of others.

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men [people] are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

That's 50,000 people screwing up a few weeks ago, allowing transmission of the disease to occur, not taking effective precautions.

The number of Active Cases is now higher than it ever was. No peak yet.

We flattened the curve, yes, (twice) but then we hoped to see it taper off, begin falling. That has not happened. Instead, it is on the rise once again.

That's bad news for people who want to be done with this.

It's coming back on stronger.

Where is the peak?

Where is our coordinated national response?

Apparently we need to elect a new president before we can see that.

That is a terrible tragedy that occurred in another country. How does that relate to the US response? Why are no details given? What stage was her cancer? Was her treatment palliative? Why does the page have a video for you to click that is really just clickbait to take you to a completely different story? Were the omitted details of the story not quite as sensational as the teaser information? Looks like fairly tabloid journalism...

It happened in England but the point is the young mother’s death gets credited to the March lockdown. She wasn’t near the end of her life in a nursing home. I think that is the main point to consider. There are stories like these anywhere there were lockdowns that affected healthcare delivery.

I was saying that was a bad idea when they did it. Now the WHO is on board with Daft 61 Omar, finally. Better late than never.

Masks will happen, eventually. Wait for it.

Before the world really knew very much about COVID-19.

She wasn’t near the end of her life in a nursing home. I think that is the main point to consider.

I did not read that in the linked story. Where did you get that information? Are you privy to more information about this story than you are divulging? What is your source?

There are stories like these anywhere there were lockdowns that affected healthcare delivery.

Far too broad a statement to have any meaning.

Link some of 'these stories.' Let's have a look at the details and learn the truth.

You're only concern appears to be the economy. And really, that's code for Trump support. If a Democratic president was facing a challenge by Trump, you would be carrying on about how bad the economy is. But since it is Trump who is fighting to save his job, you take the position that the economy is great. Since proper measures to deal with the pandemic adversely affect the economy, you resist taking them.

And the absurd thing is that the only way to rebuild the economy is to first effectively deal with the pandemic. But Trump supporters resist doing the one thing that would save Trump's chances, namely, making a great response to the pandemic that people believe is the correct approach. Thus, if Biden wins the election, Trump supporters can be blamed for his own demise by making the pandemic worse than it had to be.

Oh, wait a minute.

That was for India, with 1.4 Billion people.

We, here in the USA with 331 million people, had 57,327 new cases yesterday.

Ouch.

Our response to the pandemic has been a tragedy.
