I believe that this is the right thing to do.

Things I think we should do for election day:

1. It should be a holiday, folks can exercise their freedom on that day and spend a day off enjoying themselves with their children.
2. Folks that must work on Voting Day should get paid for working a holiday, and should have some time off to go and Vote even so (or be allowed a absentee ballot and still get the holiday pay).
3. Ballots should be cast in person, unless there is a valid reason that you cannot be there (e.g. You work at a voting center in a place where you cannot vote, Military service, working at a job that cannot give the holiday off, in the hospital, in jail (many folks in jail have not been convicted of anything and they get to vote, some states allow them machines to vote in person in the jail, others require mail in ballots for that purpose).
4. Show actual ID (none of this "copy of a bill" nonsense).

I support mail in ballots.

There are several states that allow it for everyone and they have very fraud free elections.

States with mail in ballots have higher participation rates which is a good thing in my opinion. It’s also the reason Republicans want to do away with it.

True. Only the outside has a name and address. The part that is returned has a unique bar code on it. I'm referring to the return envelope, not the ballot itself. It would be illegal to identify the ballot as belonging to a certain individual.

An exterior return envelope barcode is assigned to each voter in the household. Mr Owl's mail-in ballot has a different barcode than mine.

Who will actually be disenfranchised w/o mail-in voting:

Active duty military serving overseas, who have used it for decades with no issues
Citizens confined to nursing homes and unable to go to their polling place
Citizens temporarily out of the country on business or holiday
The disabled who lack transportation and/or assistance to leave their home
University students

How many members of these groups would tend to vote (R)? My guess is a majority.

Why?

What drives that belief to take voting backwards in time when almost every other jurisdiction is going the opposite way and fraud is not an issue.

I've asked those questions. There's always an excuse that involves "they". "They" can't rig every election, just the ones where certain states can be manipulated. "They" can't rig every election because the gap is sometimes too wide. "They" can't rig every election because it would be too obvious.

Only certain Congressional seats are steal-able, you see. It has to be in a Dem run state/city and it has to be close enough so "they" can steal it.

"They" is the the cornerstone of any good conspiracy theory.

Excellent. We can go back to having election night parties again. Early voting and counting votes for weeks after not knowing the results for weeks afater the "official" election day was boring.
