Corona Virus Peak Watch Thread

Hello Darth,

What about people who had their cancer screenings delayed and it cost them their lives? Many of them, much younger than the average age of COVID mortality—nearly 80.

Collateral damage?

If anybody has decided not to get a cancer screening because of COVID, that is their own decision. And a tough one at that. Too bad DT has done such a poor job on the pandemic. It never had to be this bad.

Nope.

Cancer screenings are elective. Those were put on hold, remember? Cardiac stress tests: elective. That’s not even getting into ‘irrational fear of the ER’ where people feared going to the ER for their chronic gall bladder symptoms [as an example—there are a host of other things] so they finally show up in the ER via ambulance—but now they are septic and their odds of survival are one in five when it should have been 99.5%.

You take a very narrow view of things and so did our medical establishment—and it has cost many lives.

They own it.

Can you provide a link which shows that cancer screenings are no longer being allowed?

As for people avoiding going to the hospital, again, that is their own decision and a tough one at that.

There would be far more confidence in going to the hospital if the coronavirus response had been correct, proper, and effective. Instead we got denial and delusion. The pandemic has been made worse by extremely foolish resistance to proven measures which have worked in other nations. All of it encouraged by terrible selfish mixed messages coming from the White House. IRRESPONSIBLE!

Electives were put on hold. It’s a fact.

People aren’t confident to go to the ER out of irrational fear. An irrational fear that has been stoked by the media. All anyone needs to do is look at the statistics to see how far out of line the COVID *hype* is out of line with COVID reality.

It boils down to this: if the objective is to ‘prevent every single COVID death’ at the expense of everything else, then at least recognize that ‘the expense’ is just that. An expense that too often involves other people’s health and well-being.

There are spikes in suicide and drug overdose deaths that go right along with the COVID deaths. And they very often *dont* involve the elderly and infirm.

COVID Reality.

Not if the government is worth the name.
Come back at a quarter million dead and have another go.

Go ahead, set policy to prevent every single COVID death.

I’ll stay here and count the ones it costs, and the lost jobs, businesses and the increase in human misery which goes along with all that.

Go for it. I’ll be here.

The American medical system is so peculiar that it's difficult for me to comment, but over here the same sort of 'bias' in favour of fighting coronavirus rather than, say, cancer, is evident. The answer, though, is not that the Government has panicked (though it has), but that it has been spending too little on the service for some years. If the spending had been equivalent to what it was before they started their 'austerity' nonsense there'd have been no problem. In the US, I suppose, the question of how much money is to be made out of Covid 19 compared with other markets, but the complications of commercial medicine are, thank God, in our our distant past, so that even running the system properly would still be much, much cheaper and more effective than yours.

It all boils down to 'an objective to prevent every single COVID death at the expense of everything else?'

You can't back that up with a credible source.

That's BS.

You mentioned 'an irrational fear?'

Well, there ya go.

There's the irrational fear.

On display.

Ok lol.

So, Trump wasn’t wrong in saying ‘don’t fear the virus’? Isn’t that what some people need to hear if they fear going to the doctor or otherwise getting on with their lives?

Isn’t that what we should expect out of a leader?

Nice twist.

Such a talent could be useful in making pretzels.

Showing that no matter what he says there is always a way to put a campaign preferential spin on it.

Only one slight problem.

America has had quite enough of Donald.

No matter what Trump says it can and will be used against him lol.

Amiright?

The numbers are creeping up again.

We are slipping up; and more people are dying.

It's an avoidable tragedy.

We have to take it more seriously.

Hello Darth,

I am so glad to hear that things are improving in Sweden.

Sweden did a terrible job of handling the crisis.

Sweden let people die needlessly.

Sweden was lucky because they are healthier than people in the USA.

Sweden fared better because they don't have many poor people.

The virus affects poor people almost twice as much.

The USA has a lot of poor people because we don't create enough opportunity and we don't have a big enough safety net.

Wealth inequality is greater in the USA than in Sweden.

Rich people can stay isolated easier than poor people.

Everybody feels rich in Sweden because they have everything they need - all their needs are met.

Swedes live longer than Americans.

There could be a second wave in Sweden. Nobody is out of the woods yet.

Sweden did terribly on the virus but they are presently doing better than any western country lol.

Again, you’re stuck on COVID death counts as being the only metric. Sweden got through it without *unnecessary deaths* from locking down—much of the world is taking note of that.

Sweden allowed people to die needlessly instead of administering the best care.

They just wrote people off.

All they offered was palliative care.
