With 58,000 dead, pandemic becomes Trump's Vietnam — in just six weeks

Now Trump has his own personal Vietnam?!!

In the winter of 1968, with no end in sight to the surging Vietnam War, and unable to see a way past his signature failure and the divided nation the conflict had created, President Lyndon Johnson announced to a shocked nation that he "shall not seek, and I will not accept" the Democratic nomination for president. The war, with an American death toll that eventually reached 58,000, had destroyed the Johnson presidency.

In the next day or two the Covid-19 pandemic death toll in the United States will match that Vietnam War death toll. (On Sunday night, the tally stood at 55,000.) What took nine years of jungle warfare in Vietnam, Trump and his utterly failed pandemic leadership has overseen in just six weeks time. Yet rather than conceding his failures and acknowledging his shame the way Johnson did in a self-less attempt to heal the nation, Trump has spent recent days suggesting people ingest Lysol or Clorox in order to cure themselves of Covid-19. (He later insisted, not believably, that he was joking about the deadly advice.)

Nearly 58,000 are dead, the American economy has collapsed, food lines are growing, and the unemployment rate could hit 20 percent this year. In a sense, this is Trump's Vietnam and Trump's Great Depression.

And both parties are failing The American people miserably. This crisis stripped them all naked for all to see what impotent feckless and corrupt beings they are.

Bullshit, the first recorded case happened back in December in San Francuso. If Trump hadn't acted so quickly to stop flights from Chins there would have been a fuckton more. Of course we all know that you and the other Dems on here were vehemently opposed to that but think we have forgotten.

Why do you always lie Kenny? You're so desperate to get rid of Trump that you'd elect a senile fool like Biden that Xi and Putin would run rings around.

I'd have to agree w/ this. And this is kind of what we deserve. We have set up a process that doesn't come close to attracting the best & most capable people. And we don't hold them accountable anymore - lobbyists roam free, corporate money rules & most politicians care more about re-election than about good governance, and we just keep voting them back in.

And why? Because we've all gotten too partisan. It's more about party than really caring.

If there is a silver lining to this, it may be that we come out of it with a different perspective. It's sad to have a crisis like this & see just how far things have gone. Our government is seriously flawed.

Laura Ingram tonight quoted some expert who confirms 2 strains of COVID on the east and west costs.
I don't know anything further but this same guy said the virus from China went to the west coast and the virus from Europe hit the east coast (strains)

ya so sad hyper-partisan means nothing can get done. not exactly news though.
Since neither national party in DC trusts or buys into the other intentions they just dig deeper into partisan warfare

Yes and the European version is far more virulent.

Trump raises his virus death toll projection to up to 70,000 in U.S.

The orange clown should hit this mark before election day, especially if he opens up the country full throttle and limited testing too?!!

President Donald Trump on Monday acknowledged more Americans would die of the coronavirus than he has recently predicted, now saying that the nationwide toll is likely to be between 60,000 and 70,000.

Nearly 56,000 have already died, according to the Johns Hopkins tracker.

"So, yeah, we've lost a lot of people," Trump said during a press briefing in the Rose Garden. "But if you look at what original projections were, 2.2 million, we are probably heading to 60,000 to 70,000."

Comrade maggot;

So then- Comrade maggot wants to send the kids to the front line in order to save his treacherous old capitalist ass !

Haw, haw....................................haw.

Yeah, pretty hard to believe this guy served.

Equating deaths from disease to combat deaths. :palm:

All the dead medics will be pissing on that statement from a great height. The government bears responsibility for starting wars and failing to adequately combat disease. Flag-waving is ass-covering.
