why should tax payers have to pay for Texans high utility bills?

Agreed. It's silly. I don't understand why there are people even suggesting it.

Please put a number or percentage on "many Texans" because I've never heard this nonsense in public except from some asshole politician.

There are some valid legal challenges to argument. Maybe they want to take it to SCOTUS to see it settled, one way or another. I don't know. Seems like there are better things to work towards than proving a political point. Even if they are correct, what's the end game? Actually secede? WTF?

Just its citizens. Continually trying to get it on the ballot. What politicians in Texas called for secession from the U.S. ?

So there's you asking me to identify any Texas politician who endorses secession, which I provided.

Where is the legislation? Anyone can support anything. West is not an elected politician.

And THERE'S you now asking me to identify any ELECTED politician who endorses secession, which you didn't ask for the first time.

I am not moving the bar. You are just angry for being caught bullshitting like a typical democrat.

And THERE you are, LYING about moving the bar...

Oligarchies don't need legislation. The SOTC does not recognize the Constitution of the United States nor the Constitution of the State of California.

Texas can NOT secede.

Late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia set the issue to rest more than a century after the civil war with his response to a letter from a screenwriter in 2006 asking if there is a legal basis for secession.

“The answer is clear,” Scalia wrote. “If there was any constitutional issue resolved by the Civil War, it is that there is no right to secede. (Hence, in the Pledge of Allegiance, ‘one Nation, indivisible.’)”

I should have explained.

I only posted the wikipedia link because you asked me what percentage of Texans endorsed secession and the page had a couple polls showing that percentage..

So? There won't be a secession even if it was 100%.

Am I surprised that when you got caught moving the bar, you immediately started whining?

Of course not.

Thank you for confirming you're just another two-faced GOP hypocrite.

Texas can NOT secede.
They can secede anytime they want to. Any State can.

The Supreme Court cannot prevent a State from seceding. It has no authority over a foreign nation. There doesn't need to be a 'legal basis'.

I don't think its fair for tax payers to once again have to bail out this anti government, want to leave the Union, anti everything American, but MONEY HICK STATE. Why should any of us have to pay for their utility bills, that they themselves benefited with low payments for years until the shit hit the fan???? And to reward utility companies with our hard earned tax dollars bc they failed to service their failing infrastructures????? This whole ordeal with Texas is nothing but a free financial windfall off the sweat and toil of hard working tax payers and its not right.

I am sick and tired of these Red states, who get more in federal welfare than any state in the union, in a constant state of handouts from tax payers, who pay nothing near the taxes most of us pay. In my opinion, this should be a teachable moment for Texans. I say let them bail their ownselves out of this mess and maybe just maybe, next time they go to the voting booths, they'd think about voting for ppl, WHO AREN'T ANTI GOVERNMENT......
Um get your facts straight. The very few Texans that received extremely high utility bills got them because they were on a plan that was based on the wholesale price of power. That shot up momentarily due to the unprecedented winter storm. Texas had NEVER had a winter storm that covered the entire state all 254 counties. The freeze was the second longest in Texas history. The temperature was the lowest in statewide history. Texans have paid for Californians that have been ravaged by fires year after year. And they paid for the damages that a relatively weak hurricane Sandy did so you can STFU. We paid our federal taxes and its only fair that we get some of that money back when we have a Emergency in our state.

BTW the new COVID relief bill wants to dole out Federal money based on unemployment . Surprise surprise the states with the highest unemployment are all Blue states EXCEPT for Vermont . So stuff it.

They shouldn't. And their bills should in no way be that high either. $500 a day? Rubbish.
