Why Republicans have over reached

Mott the Hoople

Sweet Jane
Ronald Reagan contributed much to discourse in politics in this nation but his greatest legacy is that he changed the paradigm of how politics are viewed in this nation. Prior to 1980 most Americans viewed politics from the "Labor vs Management" paradigm. Taking off from where Nixon started with his "Silent Majority" work Reagan changed the paradigm to one of "Liberal vs Consertives". It created a new era for conservatives in which they have come to dominate most of the branches of Government in the last 30 years.

That is where the fight that Republicans are picking with middle class institutions have been disastrous for Republicans. By attacking puplic unions and public education systems in the manner that they have Republican leaders have alienated many white middle class conservative voters by reverting to the old "labor vs management" political paradigm. As history has shown, this is not a battle Republicans can win. If the majority of voters have to choose between the middle class institutions that support their economic prosperity or political ideology (conservative vs liberal) the majority will side with those institutions which protect their economic interest.

Republicans would be well advised to shift away from their current union busting and undermining of public education (particularly at the higher education level) as this is a battle they cannot win and thus it is over reaching. The Reagan political paradigm of "conservative vs liberal" has served Republicans well, where as the old "labor vs management" paradigm is a proven loser for Republicans.

are you sure?......so far the only ones I've seen complaining are union members....

Well then you need to get out more often. Nearly 2/3 of the people polled in both Wisconsin and Ohio are opposed to the restrictions on collective bargaining. The same with PA's Governors drastic budget proposal for higher education.

Not to mention their war on anyone who is not of european desent.

They keep attacking Americans who are brown as if they are all illegals.

Well......we have 3 good posts setting the stage for a rather interesting debate.....then a typical pinhead comment, off topic, of no value, an attempt to play the race card, and as usual, a lie....

Its almost uncanny.... like clockwork and so predictable .:good4u:....thanks for not disappointing me.

How exactly do Public Unions represent labour, or the "labor vs. management" paradigm? I'd say public unions represent a new workplace political paradigm, better termed "low-end public servants vs. high-end public servants," or perhaps "public servants vs. tax payers."

again.... as stated on countless other threads... those polls results would differ greatly if the question was worded differently.

The revelation about hiring the Senators girlfriend is not going to fare well for Walker! Naughty, naughty!

I don't know if I'd call it a war but they sure have done a lot to alienate non-whites. Some of whom, like muslims and latinos are pretty conservative by culture.

Well we will find out come election time but I think your very much trying to ignore just how unpopular these legislations are.

no mott....you are the one ignoring reality. if the legislation was that bad, the voters could easily get a recall vote on the senators....in fact, i believe they have tried, both libs and cons....with very little success.

your polls at this time are meaningless, and really do not capture the true meaning as SF spelled out for you.

Yea well why don't you go up to a University Professor or a School Teacher or a Policeman or a Fire Chief and call them a low end public servant and see how that works out for you. That's pretty shameful of you 3D to try and marginalize people in that manner. Would "low end public servant" also include your father? If I remember correctly he's a WWTP/POTW Operator.

You must not be paying attention then. They all ready have the signatures lined up in Ohio to put it up for a referendum or do you have a problem with that too?

when the signatures actually gain steam, then get back to me. before then.....you're just a whiner. there are folks on both sides of the aisle who want to impeach their elected reps......my hunch is....you will only support the impeachment of pubs.... you will ignore the other citizens who want to impeach their reps......because it doesn't fit your world view.

You're living in another world dude.

While I don't like the reps at all, most people aren't in a union, & there's a lot more tax payers than public union workers.

The tide turned when the dems forced healthcare on us.

What seems so simple to you is nothing more than sodomy towards others children.

The reps are about to loose a lot by funding Obama/Bainercare last week.

But one way or another, the torch is raging.
