While I might prefer they abstain until marriage, its pretty easy to avoid getting knocked up.

  • Most women have a 28-day menstrual cycle. That means you have about 6 days each month when you can get pregnant. That includes the day that one of your ovaries releases an egg, called ovulation, and the 5 days before.

I’m not some bleeding heart nor am I some faux feminist but I was single living in SF and LA for a long time. I had a good time and didn’t get cheated. It’s takes two to tango and I never once asked a girl are you within your window to get pregnant. I’m not a proponent of reckless behavior but I also know people are going to hook up with each other.

The truth, is both Democrats and Republican families have abortions.

Just like both Democrats and Republicans own guns- BUT THE REPUBLICANS SAY THE DEMOCRATS WANT TO TAKE YOUR GUNS AWAY! Just more nasty politics!

I could give you a dozen other examples of Republican claims about Democrats where Republicans are just as much to blame for the problems of society!

I didn’t get anyone pregnant (that I’m aware of) but outside of using protection I never did anything else to prevent pregnancies. So it could have happened. And my behavior was similar to lots of people. I wasn’t alone being single and going out and about.

You do the smart thing and slap a condom on yer pecker to avoid preggers AND stds
Your paramour(s) do the smart thing and dont date on those 6 unwise days of the month.

The exact time of ovulation tends to move around a bit, so the calendar method is notoriously difficult and error prone.

As for waiting until marriage, family planning does not only happen before marriage. It also happens after marriage. Married couples who want smaller families, or even no children in their family, use birth control to make that happen.

Getting rid of birth control would make us a poorer country. We would have more children than we could educate, and spend less on those children. People would be constantly having children at random times in their lives.

That is taken out of context, and given a false meaning. Sanger believed that having smaller families would lead poor people (white and Black) to invest more in the children they had. This would increase their prosperity. She was worried that Blacks would think it was a conspiracy against them, so wrote that it was important that there be Black doctors and Black ministers offering birth control in Black communities. In particular, she wrote about the Black ministers:

I couldnt help it. We had a few drinks with friends on Friday so I was a little hungover yesterday. When Im hungover Im GOOFY :laugh: Best part is we got invited to a cookout last night so I had a FEW MORE drinks! Who knows how today is gonna go,....I might be goofy AGAIN. :cool:
 
It’s the basic human need to control one’s own destiny. It’s about the unequal position it puts women in. It’s one’s right to make the most personal of decisions without big government interference. It’s about the right to privacy.
