Why is liberal California the poverty capital of America?

no one is flooding the country, you are a liar

From an idiot whose entire repetoire of thread responses consist of "you are lying!" and "that is false!", I'm not sure what exactly a POS troll like you is adding to the discussion.

You're a good candidate with your extremely low IQ, to be a democratic elected official though.

No, actually total defense spending is about a trillion annually. $333 billion per year off the national debt would take 42 years if we only cut military spending by 1/3, did nothing else to service down the debt with the our present 14 trillion annual gnp, and assuming no growth whatsoever. We could pay it down and it wouldn't even pinch. Loser, fool, fascist, ignorant scum.

That was my point you fucking moron.

If the country annually put $333B towards the debt it would take almost FIFTY YEARS to eliminate it, and that does not include potentially rising rates which are currently super low historically - and if they rose could double or triple the pay back time.

You're clearly mentally ill and weak.

Cut out the fraud, waste, abuse and dead wood from the army and that would account for at least a third of their budget.

Interesting idea, perhaps you can offer some specific recommendations. Assuming you know anything about the military and how it functions.

I do. Worked contract with the army for three yrs in Germany.
Boot out the high paid doctors whose title is "events coordinator" that do literally nothing other than pass out birthday cards for staff to sign or the docs that have the title "steriliztion control officer" that does nothing but go thru sterilization packs looking for sterilization dates to see if the instruments need to be re sterilized .
Boot out the "supply techs" who haven't ordered any supplies for two + months while staff is wondering why there are no supplies available.
Or the area command colonel whose only goal is to get promoted to general by kissing ass and doing as many photo ops as possible.
Or dishonorable discharge the OIC who signs off time sheets for his officer buddy's contractor wife who is at work maybe 1/2 the time (that's being generous).
Put new docs fresh out of school to work actually seeing patients at least 4 days a week rather than once a month because they're out changing oil on humvees or setting up tents rather than letting their skills erode
That would be a good start. I could go on for hours.

I don't know the ins and out of the military but one must think with an organization that size there is a lot of bureaucratic waste. Of course to the person's whose job it is they wouldn't think of it as waste but the military and defense shouldn't be a jobs program.

Eliminate the "paid patriotism" ceremonies which the military pays for at NFL football games sending jets over the stadium. Look at the Inspector General reports about the huge waste and fraud in Afghanistan in which contractors fail to complete buildings, unnecessary living quarters are built for contractors at huge expense, planes (from Italy) were purchased that do not fly, money they cannot account for....And, the military just classified most of these items so the IG can no longer examine them.

This is an Op Ed well worth the read. Direct and to the point, states its facts nicely. http://www.latimes.com/opinion/op-ed/la-oe-jackson-california-poverty-20180114-story.html

Here is one part that caught my eye. "Self-interest in the social-services community may be at fault. As economist William A. Niskanen explained back in 1971, public agencies seek to maximize their budgets, through which they acquire increased power, status, comfort and security. To keep growing its budget, and hence its power, a welfare bureaucracy has an incentive to expand its “customer” base. With 883,000 full-time-equivalent state and local employees in 2014, California has an enormous bureaucracy. Many work in social services, and many would lose their jobs if the typical welfare client were to move off the welfare rolls."

It was "well worth the read", Sailor.

I'm not sure we can put our fingers on the actual problem (especially as a discrete cause...and I'm not sure what can turn the situation around.

Do you think going from the left-leaning mind set currently in play in California...to one closer to the essential American conservative mind set would be of help?

It may go in cycles.
After decades of Republican victories, here’s how California became a blue state again

California isn't going red again anytime soon. It's possible statewide that someone like Arnold could win if all the stars are aligned but basically the only question each election cycle is will Dem's have a super majority in Congress or not.

And those changes will amount to hundreds of billions saved?

If I were to apply tight behavioral rules to municipal and broad federal employees along the lines of what you suggest around the US, FAR more would be saved. Can they be applied to other agencies and cities, or only to the military?

How about the NYC subway, the worst run mass transit agency on earth?

The joke of this is all the libs who claim there is so much waste in the military claim that government elsewhere is just fine, as if only one agency - because it is favored by some conservatives - can be problematic. How about the fact that NYC has 400K workers on its payroll, EIGHT TIMES as many per capita as even other liberal shitholes like Detroit?

How about we mass deport all of the illegals, who cost the US over $150BB per year in services and remittances sent out of the country, at least. Honestly, if someone wanted to save wasted money in the US, I'd start right there, but the scumbag liberals will fight that because those illegals are future democratic voters.

Don't disagree, but the waste on illegals is a real point of frustration for me, so I'd start there.

No doubt the military has massive waste, 60 Minutes talks about it every 3 years when they run out of other stories.
