Cities with large, poor minorities have had crime problems for decades. These poor minorities see Democrats as their only hope to ease the burdens of poverty as opposed to Republicans who they know would leave them high and dry.

Hence they elect Democrat leadership as their best hope because Democrats are the only ones with the guts and the compassion to at least try to ease their burdens.

It's not these cities turn crime and poverty infested after Democrats take over.

It's that they were already beset by these problems and Democrats are the only ones willing to try to help these people rather than throw them under the bus the way Republicans would.

The concentration of poor people in those cities is much higher than in southern Sunbelt cities where Republicans get elected as mayors and city council members.

The problems in these cities are more complicated and complex and nobody could simply legislate them away.

Poverty is something that doesn't just disappear because some suit wearing assholes cut social assistance programs and brush people off by saying "Get a job" as they're getting into their limo and heading off to the golf course.

Also, I find it amusing that a DOGE cheerleader like you would be lamenting the *supposed* defunding of any government agency, even though in this case, what you're claiming never even happened.

Funding for US police departments is up across the board.

I live in a southern city, Jethro.

I've never once referred to the larger urban areas or cities in the south, as poor or uneducated.

The truth is, that even in the red state south, the larger cities are enclaves of education and civilization which, not surprisingly, are largely inhabited by Democrats.

It's the rural and semi-rural surrounding towns, municipalities and hamlets which are predominantly poor, uneducated and backwards.

These areas are the ones in which trump and conservative Republicans dominate politically.

I don't buy your false premise that these towns are always more prosperous and wealthy or that they have lower regulations. Most regulations are determined at the state level and even if they did, as you claim result in higher prosperity, it comes at the expense of other valuable considerations. Things like environmental quality, education, services for the elderly and poor, etc.

Many of these red state rural areas are just as poor as any northern urban ghetto

Plus, it's well known that most red states take tax revenue from blue states to balance their budgets.

But overall, it's no surprise to me that you'd believe more money in the pockets of an elite few at the expense of the average citizens, is something to boast about.
