Why are there no American statues of Hitler or Hirohito, but so many of Lee

Lee almost winning matters, historically.

Also, they probably still study some of his tactics at West Point. Why are we debating the CW when we should be discussing tax reform?

This country is losing its collective mind.

No your party HAS LOST it's collective mind.

What would Reagan say if he saw a republican fucking president equivocating Nazis and extolling them as "fine people"?
Your insane president has infected the whole GOP...

The Charlottesville statue of Lee was erected in 1924 long after the traitorous civil war had ended, and well into the Jim Crow era of southern institutionalized racism...

Should the USA really be celebrating the assholes that it defeated in bronze? Seriously a fucking moron is a fucking moron, and the problem here is not statues, but the morons that let statues of ignorance be erected in the first place.............................

Are there statues of Rommel or Tokyo Rose..............

Do we have any statues of George the third?

If the constitution allows for idiocy, it also allows for the removal of idiocy

Can we get a statue of Hillary Clinton? my dogs would love it

I do have to laugh at so much of the synthrage on here especially when talking about Nazism. Isn't the Apollo space programme a monument to Nazi rocket scientists especially Werner von Braun? Shouldn't all those rockets in museums be sent off to the knacker's yard as they are potent symbols of an evil regime?

Where are all the Nixon Statues?
Well here is one for starters!!

You're calling the Nazi rocket scientists that designed the Saturn 5 Americans now? Werner von Braun actually designed the V2 rocket which bombarded London, killing thousands of people.

You're still are missing the point.......

Whatever the reality of a symbol, any symbol, it's about how it is perceived.....

true. but symbols still have an innate value, especially when they outlast temporal politics/mob mentality.
They are more then 1 generational in many cases

Not interested in a philosophical discussion about the innate value of some symbols......

symbol definition. Something that represents or suggests something else...........

No it isn't, it's mostly about appeasing emotional bedwetters.
Most American GI's as well as their Brit counterparts would have strangled that man in a heartbeat but as you know, all sides wanted what was in his head. AMerican propaganda reinvented him & no one was around to question that..... Now days that would be a lot harder to pull off.......

I am only trying to address the illogicality of it all, but we know that many people base their whole lives on emotions and feelings.
