One could be quick to assume that these differences are based on the underlying demographic and socioeconomic patterns related to party identification in America today. A recent Gallup report (see "Strong Relationship Between Income and Mental Health" in Related Items) reviewed these mental health data more generally, and found that men, those with higher incomes, those with higher education levels, and whites are more likely than others to report excellent mental health. Some of these patterns describe characteristics of Republicans, of course.

But an analysis of the relationship between party identification and self-reported excellent mental health within various categories of age, gender, church attendance, income, education, and other variables shows that the basic pattern persists regardless of these characteristics. In other words, party identification appears to have an independent effect on mental health even when each of these is controlled for.

In 1960, Detroit was just under 71% white, just under 29% black, and the rest a mix of Asian, Hispanic, and "other". Prior to 1960, Detroit had larger white population and smaller black populations. By 1970, the percentage of whites had dropped and the percentage of blacks had risen dramatically. Coupled with that was the City council becoming more and more Democrat controlled. Since 1960, there have been only 4 Republicans elected to City Council with the rest being predominantly Democrat with 1 Progressive, and several unaffiliated. For the last 36 years going back to 1994, it's been ALL Democrats. In the last 60 years, Detroit has become the largest black populated city in the U.S. at almost 83%.

Just goes to show when you have Democrats in control coupled with large black populations that want to stay on the plantation, the results aren't very good.

Detroit is the 6th most dangerous city based on per capital violent crimes in the country. Is anyone shocked?

...and you're 99% stupid. Here's why: you don't understand the additional factors of "white flight", how educational funding is 92% local taxes and the negative consequences of poor education.

OTOH, maybe you do understand the limitations of poor education at this point in your life and you need someone to blame.

"White flight", just like claims of "white privilege" are excuses.

I do understand the limitations of poor education. I can see where places like Detroit have failed to educate their high black population and it's resulted in most of them choosing to remain as house niggers on the Democrat plantations.

It's not a coincidence that as Detroit became predominantly black, sometime between 1970 and 1980, and they elected Democrats since that time, with 1 Republican exception in 1990, it has become a shithole. 6th highest violent crime rate in the country per capita. Those that understand how things work aren't surprised. Those that refuse to learn continue to make excuses.

It isn't, it's a group of ideas just like everything from vegetarians to Neapolitan pizza makers. Only difference is its polarization that does seem to cause a bit of instability in its detractors. You can thank all those paid pundits, political shock jocks, and disinformation trolls.

Dude, fuck political correctness. "White flight" is a fact; the mass movement of middle class Americans out of the cities and into the suburbs thus resulting in a massive shift of tax revenue away from the cities. This adversely affected all city public institutions resulting in blighted areas. The secondary fact that the vast majority of those middle class were of European descent is a statistical fact.

There's no right or wrong, just history and people doing what they think is best for their families.
