White Liberals Twice as Likely to be Diagnosed with Psychological Problems

It's fascinating that after looking at your posted link, which reeks of partisanship, I went to the horse's mouth -- Pew Research -- and discovered that the graphs in the article are fake. There is no "Wave 64" listed on their list of data sets which go back to 2014. The most recent one is Wave 59, early 2020. If you edit the URL and remove "59" and replace it with "64," you get a 404 error. Try it. You've been had.

Wave 64 has happened...

The news report is fake as none of the questions asked in wave 64 have anything to do with mental illness and political bias.

The questions asked can be found on page 5. They are related to Coronvirus.

This is one explanation...

Change a few of them into black, gay and independent woman and watch conservatives have a meltdown. ;)

russia gate was fake news. perhaps you might remember mueller completely floundering and failing

The funny thing about Russiagate is that it is the exact tactic China would use to divide the US and Russia as the primary fear of China is the US somehow gaining the allegiance of Russia creating an indefensible land border for China and vastly complicating their economic activities like new silk road.

An interesting blog. Here's a study reporting similar conclusions. Like the Hennessy blog, it doesn't detail the causal factors although it does mention some possible ones: https://osf.io/vum67/download

Notice that all are "self-report" just like the Kinsey Report was self-reported sexual activities and desires.

One could be quick to assume that these differences are based on the underlying demographic and socioeconomic patterns related to party identification in America today. A recent Gallup report (see "Strong Relationship Between Income and Mental Health" in Related Items) reviewed these mental health data more generally, and found that men, those with higher incomes, those with higher education levels, and whites are more likely than others to report excellent mental health. Some of these patterns describe characteristics of Republicans, of course.

But an analysis of the relationship between party identification and self-reported excellent mental health within various categories of age, gender, church attendance, income, education, and other variables shows that the basic pattern persists regardless of these characteristics. In other words, party identification appears to have an independent effect on mental health even when each of these is controlled for.

"Left-wing" policies in America are considered moderate in other developed nations. Universal healthcare is the norm, for instance. So is acceptance of science and laws against racism and sexism.

Since we're not any of those other nations, we're the U.S., that statement is meaningless.

There's nothing normal about forcing one group that can and is willing to provide itself healthcare to pay for the healthcare of the other group that is unwilling.

When you claim to accept science then refuse to acknowledge that life begins at conception and there are only two genders, you don't accept science, as you claim, you're pushing a left wing ideology.

You aren't against laws related to racism and sexism. No one that supports things like affirmative action can make that claim. If you support those laws, you support racism and sexism because you support using race and sex to determine whether or not someone is qualified. I support the MOST qualified person in a position and don't care is that means he entity involved is all black, all white, all male, all female, etc. Unlike you, I don't believe a workplace or anything should be made to look like a box of crayons for that sake of diversity.

It's more accurate to say that intelligent people are more likely than dumb people to be diagnosed. Depression is the most common diagnoses. It's easy to be happy when you're as dumb as a brick.
As they say, ignorance is blessful.
Ignorance is blissful until it runs over you with its truck, then it sucks.

While it's true better educated and/or more intelligent people are more likely to seek help, it doesn't fully explain the difference(s).

Correlation is no proof of causation, of course. The reason the relationship exists between being a Republican and more positive mental health is unknown, and one cannot say whether something about being a Republican causes a person to be more mentally healthy, or whether something about being mentally healthy causes a person to choose to become a Republican (or whether some third variable is responsible for causing both to be parallel).

Previous analysis (see Related Items) shows that a number of variables are related to self-reported mental health -- including, in particular, income. Because Republicans have on average higher incomes than independents or Democrats, part of the explanation for the relationship between being a Republican and having better mental health is a result of this underlying factor. The same is true for several other variables.

But the key finding of the analyses presented here is that being a Republican appears to have an independent relationship on positive mental health above and beyond what can be explained by these types of demographic and lifestyle variables. The exact explanation for this persistent relationship -- as noted -- is unclear.

QED = Which was to be demonstrated. have a cookie and think about it

I take it that you have never went to a college.

We used to joke about it, calling it "Quite Easily Done".

And I understood your point. You claimed that I've demonstrated the OP's point. It's a form of deflection.

So will you answer the question, or are you going to deflect again?

Ah another deflection. Nice one though. Beautiful.

Maybe your instructor hasn't trained you on answering those types of questions? ;)
you speak way too much before your mind can appreciate the koan..
slow down your monkey mind before speaking again

slow down your monkey mind before speaking again

Good advice. So why aren't you taking your own advice?

Calm your mind down then perhaps you can answer a simple question.
