...Dred Scott was indirectly overruled in the Slaughter-House Cases, which noted that Dred Scott's holding was superseded by the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution in 1865, which abolished slavery, and the Fourteenth Amendment in 1868, which guaranteed full rights and citizenship regardless of race. Though it is sometimes said that Dred Scott was never officially overruled, the Slaughter-House Cases did note that the post-Civil War Fourteenth Amendment (and thus enacted after the Dred Scott case) had overruled it, although the Court was merely noting the fact that Dred Scott had already been overruled by the amendment; it was not the Court that overruled Dred Scott, but Congress and the states:....

Nah- at worst we'll be like those dumb Canucks with a segregated society- French and English. We won't be forced to speak German like y'all would have been if we didn't step in and save your limey arses.

A big "Thank You" going out especially to you, SM.

We appreciate your personal sacrifice in fighting the dreaded Hun on the battlegrounds of Europe.

That would make you one of the younger ones at your protest, i suppose.

Thanks and much appreciated but the credit in my family lineage for that goes to my Great Aunt who operated a 40 ton rolling crane assembling artillery in Watertown, Massachusetts. I'll let her know though. :)

I demand an apology from you for lying about the Lusitania, btw... Also, the Zimmermann Telegram.

I see Spain has changed its mind about bringing charges of war crimes. What a hoot.

Yes, the Spanish A-G ruled that the officials couldn't be charged as they weren't actually present at the scene of the (i suppose i should say alleged) torture.

He also used the excuse that any prosecution would risk turning the Spanish courts into a "political plaything". Apparently this doesn't apply when dealing with smaller less powerful countries, as human rights abuses are subjective.

Now that the crusading Mr Obama has deemed that his principled stance doesn't go so far as to investigate and prosecute those US citizens accused of torture, these fine upstanding gentlemen can live out the rest of their lives with the same façade of respectability as General Pinochet.

This was all a big facade to garner attention. Once they found out we were going to boycott them, they did an about-face. This shows their weakness.

Clinton was also charged with war-crimes, which I thought was a huge joke.

No politician welcomes the prospect of the legal system holding them accountable for their actions which is why so many of these investigations are shut down with official approval.

A little accountability is a dangerous thing.

BTW i don't think Clinton was ever charged with war-crimes was he? I can't remember it if he was anyway.

April 15 was the date of the largest number of tea parties, with demonstrations reported to be occurring in more than 750 cities.[34] Actual numbers of protesters varied from location to location. Statistican and liberal political activist Nate Silver noted the largest protests were in capitals and large cities, while many others had little or no reliable media coverage and were not included. He reported cumulative crowd size from various newspapers to be around 311,460 for 346 cities, including essentially all large cities and state capitals.[70] Christian Science Monitor has stated that "By some estimates, over half a million Americans took to the streets", which would make the protests the largest since March 25, 2006, where 750,000 protested in support of rights and protections for immigrants. It also stated that "Critics doubt the higher estimates of the turnout, and say the numbers represent the extreme right rather than a burgeoning political counterpoint to President Obama and current Washington policies."

"more than 750", as I said, nobody has a good count. There were so many different organizers of the event it is difficult to get a good accurate count. He speaks of about half of them with an accumulated count of 311,460. Even that would be good, IMO, if it is a beginning. But as I stated, I don't know yet if it was a beginning, or an end.

March 25, 2006, where 750,000 protested in support of rights and protections for immigrants.

It was a small national protest and you refuse to face it.

If the lowballed estimates are correct it was the largest since that one. Again you fail to read what you post yourself. You are such a hack.

One notable thing. It took decades and many protests to grow the pro-illegal protests to the size they reached. They started much, much smaller. If it IS a beginning, it is auspicious indeed.

ROFLMAO.... I love it when Desh herself proves she is full of shit.... Desh, the one commenting that Damo's estimates were too high..... turns around and provides a link that says there were about 750 protests.... AND the icing on the cake..... that out of the 346 cities they tabulated.... about 311,460 people showed up....

I wonder what that averages per event..... oh yeah... right about 900.... I know someone mentioned an average of 900 somewhere before... where was it again????

I'm sure the media ignored all of the big ones. It makes perfect sense to extrapolate that 900 out to all 750 cities and towns. Just out of curiosity, what was the median?
