what was the best time in American history?

You know I smoked some pretty good weed this weekend, but you somehow must have gotten your hands on something even better. Which is hard to believe, because this was really good shit.

I actually did get some really good shit, always do. Though it is probably far easier here, especially now. That said, what was your point on the national debt?

The improving economy will take care of the debt, but the greatness of this country is not only defined by the economic situation. We are in an era of unprecedented freedom, happiness and opportunity unknown by previous generations.

Simply consider what my children have that I did not, they have amazing opportunity for education and freedom, they can go to school and study anything they choose, they can read about just about any topic on the internet and learn, they can create a world for themselves where we had to live in the world that was created for us.

They are safer on the streets than kids have been in generations. They have the right and freedom to be whoever they are and will be so much less forced to conform to a norm than we were.

No dude, you are talking about the previous generations, not now. Do you sleep during the day, often?

Just like they deny Clinton did better then any fucking republican too.

You want fiscal soundness DONT hire a republican

So you enjoy the $6 Trillion we have burdened future generations with? You like the 7.5%+ unemployment for the past five years? You like the fact that we are losing full time jobs and gaining more part time?

Compared to the burdens of previous generations, YES! I will take a 6 trillion debt (that I do not believe will burden future generations) and 7.5% unemployment over the chance of having my children killed in a war in Iraq almost any day of the week.

I love the crumbling of the traditional jobs based employment system we have had in the past. I think a return to more self employment and less of a yoke of corporate slavery leads to a MUCH more healthy America.

My kids wont have to put on a suit and tie and leave the house at 8am every day simply because they want to support a home and a family. There are so many new ways to make a living and to be successful without the confines of a "job".

Yeah the future generations are going to be trying to figure out how to build time machines so they can come back here and spit in your face over climate change, the debt really isn't going to be a big issue for them. A passing thought. Sort of like a mosquito bite.

LMAO... yeah, the future generations are going to be pissed about it being a half a degree warmer (if that). They won't care about the $18T in debt that we leave them.

A white man just murdered a black man in cold blood and got away with it. We have an exploding national debt and massive economic inequality. And you think this is the best time in our country's history?

not to mention only 16% of Americans think Congress is doing a good job.....and that 16% only think so because they believe the only alternative to Congress for keeping their linoleum clean is Pinesol.......

Couldn't have been easier than how I got mine.

My point is the debt fear mongering is a bunch of horseshit disseminated by ideologues who are looking for an excuse to slash SS, Medicare, and Medicaid. You don't think I'm falling for that do you? You better try the chick at the other end of the bar SF.

No Dude, I am talking about the best time America has ever known.

Like I said, you are daydreaming if you think we have unprecedented freedom right now.

Stop and frisk has been ruled unlawful, yet not stopped. I could go on and on for pages and days but you wouldn't see it if you believe what you posted so it is pointless.

I don't think we need to slash SS. I think there is certainly waste in Medicare and Medicaid that we can eliminate (as Obama himself stated). I think defense is the area that needs to be slashed the most. The debt is a massive problem. It is patently abusive to continue adding to it and not paying our own way. Why should future generations have to pay for us?

The dismissal of the debt as any kind of concern is pretty alarming.

The thing is, no one knows for sure what it means. There are guys who have been spot on w/ everything financial for decades who see a market correction of anywhere from 50-90% coming (90%!), because of the debt & what Bernanke is doing. On the opposite side of the spectrum, there are those who say it's no worry at all, and doesn't mean anything.

The certainty on either end bothers me. We've never seen this level of debt; we've never had the Fed do anything like what they're doing by pumping money into the economy at this level. The only thing we are certain of is that this is something that is out of control, and that no one really understands.

And if you're worried about Social Security, there is MUCH more of a danger to it empircally by skyrocketing debt than by people using the debt as an excuse to gut it. SS is on its last legs right now.

you think the debt situation is improving under Obama? It has risen every year he has been in office. In his best year he has been far worse than Bush's worst year.

Oh really, and were any of those increases due to anything Bush might have done and kept off the books? Like say the costs of the wars? The cost of his tax cuts which he "sunsetted" to hide? Anything else? Could that be possible?

Is the deficit increasing or decreasing? And did the CBO forecast the federal debt shrinking for the rest of Obama's term by any chance?

LOL
Good luck with that Simplefreak, I don't think the chick at the other end of the bar is going to fall for your bullshit either.

I'm with Jarod; now is better for so many reasons, and the best is yet to come. As I said earlier

I too, oddly, would say the best part is still to come. Our country just keeps getting better and better. Sure there are tough decades; but overall we're continuing to become more civilized - fewer states with the death penalty; we're treating our handicapped citizens better; we're understanding drug addiction is a disease, not a crime; we're expanding rights for minorities, women, LGBTs; our younger generation is MUCH more tolerant than any generation so far; we've cleaned up our air and land and water since the 50s/60s/70s; we continue to debate issues about govt spying and forfeiture laws, etc.

Not perfect by any means right now; but every decade in most ways we're getting better.
