Actually, I belive it not only takes a "Village" to raise children. It also takes a "village" to be a profitable member of our society, and to accomplish much in this world as an adult.
We need society because we arent self-sufficient. But we are seperate from the society in that we can be removed from it if we choose. Look at immigrants who never learn English (intentionally) and continue their old traditions. They choose not to integrate, and encourage their children, youth to do much the same.
The reality is that whomever the child is around the most, whomever the child respects, looks up to the most is who they will adopt their values from. So long as the parants are the primary givers and the most important to the child its ideas will reflect the parents to a degree.
The removal or parents as the primary influences in a child's life would be a detrimate to freedom and a huge step towards government indoctrination. Counter-cultures would also diminish dramatically.
