What is woke about the lil mermaid?

There's no reason to keep going...is there? Watch the new one and you'll understand.. I'm also really disappointed in the Eric character... the new song not very good... his new backstory? Why? And forth but if you haven't seen it it really doesn't do any good to discuss it does it? Melissa McCarthy was really good though... but they even had to change her demise... they should have just called it something other than the Little Mermaid and probably no one would have complained it all... or maybe they shouldn't have mentioned why they changed it so much... that didn't help... but when all is sudden done it had nothing to do with Ariel's color...lol.. ethnic characters are nothing new at all... have you seen Cinderella with Brandy and Whitney... now that was fun...:)

Ok, but you keep refusing any specifics, what was wrong with the new ending?

Have you been upset by other movies that changed things but had the same name?

Did you care that Disney's first 'Little Mermaid' significantly changed the story from Hans Chrsitian Anderson's book?

So not woke...? Just a disappointment... Something that is never explained.... :)

And never will be because then she'd have to admit that she hasn't seen the movie and is just whining about something someone else said. Notice how Concart, who actually saw both versions, is being pointedly ignored.

What a meltdown about a song that wasn't made for you anyway. This is my point. You're pissed off about everything non-white because it doesn't involve you and you have no control over it. Do you post on JPP while you're on hold with the police about Black kids riding bikes and selling lemonade? I bet you do.

Go change your tranny panties, boy.

You are as clueless as the rest of your kind. Whatever the hell that is.

You're pissed off about everything non-black because it doesn't involve false victimhood you have no control over it. Do you post on JPP while you're on hold with the police about black gang thugs shooting from cars and selling drugs and stolen guns to kids on your street? I bet you don't because I bet you're just fine with it. Couldn't care less.

Let's see you justify this pornographic ghetto trash GARBAGE for us, you empty headed, gender & genitalia-obsessed, drag queen tranny ding-a-ling

I can't wait for the usual suspect crowd of insane brainwashed progressive do-gooders to jump in here with both feet and start making all their weak-ass excuses for this trash and defend the skank who recorded and released it... excuse me... "dropped" it (like a turd I guess) because she is.....

BLAAAA - AAAACK!!!!!! :crybaby:

Because, as we all know, in the "minds" of these people it is verboten to engage in any kind of legitimate criticism of any member of any protected victim group. Meaning black or alphabet mainly.

Even if the criticism merits discussion, it is verboten to criticize any protected class "victim" of one or more "isms" or "ists".

Now.... bring on the screams and tears and cries of RAAAYYYYCISSSST!!!!

:fu:

So not woke...?

No. They selected an incredibly talented up and coming black actress and singer (she is a songwriter as well) to play the role. She is a protege of Beyonce, who, btw, voiced the adult Nala. Replacing a white voice actor in the original. OMFG, that movie was woke too. Damn, I didn't realize that until now :)

I'm not too crushed. But yep, when you see a movie, you say something like 'I saw it the first day it came out with my grandkids'. Or 'my wife and I went to see it and we both loved it'. She has 'hinted'. But the complaint about the ending gives her away. I know because.... well..... I saw it.

As for the other idiot, he hasn't seen it either, but his default position is that a white actress was the best person for the role. Which is, of course, racist on it's face. The idea that they WANTED Halle Bailey for the role never crossed his mind. It's not rocket science. BTW, the audience score for them movie is 94%,. Critics who didn't like it aren't complaining about woke, and most agree that Halle Bailey is fantastic. In fact, a number of critics don't like it because it is STILL sexist in it's premise. In other words, not woke enough.

This whole thing is just galactically stupid, but it is a reflection of our times. Tweak any of these people, and it doesn't take long for the racist to pop up or the transphobe to reveal themselves. In some cases, it's both.

I've seen the movie as well as the 1989 animated classic.

I didn't notice anything radically and substantively different about them

Girl meets boy --> girl loses boy --> girl wins boy back.

Clooney and Pitt's Ocean's Eleven wasn't even similar to the Rat Pack version of 1959.

Seeing the original was one of the formative moments of my life--at an impressionable age, I witnessed the concept of "cool"
that would serve me through all of my days.

The 2001 version was two hours of light entertainment that I still enjoyed, but no epiphanies were to be experienced.
I was already too old for epiphanies, anyway.

Just as I enjoyed the two very different films at two very different levels,
I would imagine that the same could happen with the Mermaid vehicles.
Not being especially familiar with so-called "family entertainment," however, it's not for me to say.

WOOOOOOOO!!!!! :lov1:

A protege of Beyonce!!!!! :yay:

I cannot see how being the protege of yet another nasty mouthed rap ho' is anything to be proud of....

But then in your f'd up world where everything is bass-ackwards, when recording stars who young kids listen to produce filthy, sexually explicit song lyrics, that means they are brave and daring and cutting edge and unashamed etc, etc, etc.

Might as well get the kids a Pornhub account.

It is definitely both with the "teacher" complaining about how a movie she never saw was ruined by "woke."

The opinion of someone like yourself who has seen both versions and is able to articulate the similarities and differences is far more valuable than the rote repetition of what some alt-Reichwing hatchet man/woman has to say about it.

White girl with flowing red hair in original is cast in remake as black girl with flowing dark hair seems to be the main difference, along with more sensitivity about female characters needing to be saved by some prince charming. People who haven't seen both probably should quit crying about how the 2nd one is "ruined by woke."

My sense from both movies is that Ariel, first and foremost, wanted to live in the human world. Falling in love with the prince was incidental to that.

When I watched the movie it didn't even occur to me people would be upset about a black actress playing Ariel.

As far as I can tell, with a long term trend of globalization and changing demographics, it's quite natural to expect a slightly browner tone in government, business, advertising, and entertainment

Why?

Based on your description it is OBVIOUSLY "ruined by woke".

Woke feminist propaganda trash to be specific.

Movies no longer entertain.

They preach, propagandize and indoctrinate.

Yay.

Her hair is red tinted in the movie. Ursula even calls her 'red'. Yes, there were minor, and I mean MINOR tweaks to song lyrics to reflect the changes in attitudes towards women in the decades since the original was made. Oh, boo hoo hoo.

Be curious, not judgmental. If you are curious you would see the film. If you are judgmental, you will let others form your opinion for you. Enough said. That saying really resonates with me. Part of why I loved Ted Lasso. It perfectly sums up the problems that are apparent in this thread. Lots of judgment, ZERO curiousity.

ROTFLMFAO. Damn dude, you are wound tight as a drum. Get over yourself. Seriously.

It is nice that we just had to scratch you a little and you went full racist. It was SOOOO easy.

The only reason anyone would notice "changes in lyrics" is if they were reading rightwing tweets about it and adopting the opinion of the tweet author.

Completely agree. They are looking for a reason to be outraged. They are looking for a boogeyman. Because they are bereft of any thoughts or any ideas, and they have become hopelessly lazy and entitled. They need someone to blame for their lot in life, and they REFUSE to blame the rich guys who are taking money out of their wallets, and they refuse to blame themselves. So they have demonized everyohe and everything that might benefit someone other than a white person. That is the naked, unvarnished truth.
