In March 2018 DoJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz opened a review of the FBI's Russia investigation. In December 2019 his report was released. It found that the FBI investigation had a factual basis and was initiated for an authorized purpose. "We did not find evidence that political bias or improper motivation influenced the agency's decision to open the investigation.”
The Horowitz report debunked claims by Trump and his supporters:
- that the Steele dossier had prompted the Russia investigation (in fact the investigation started in July 2016, following a tip from Australian government officials regarding Trump adviser George Papadopoulos)
- that Peter Strzok had initiated the investigation (in fact it was initiated by William Priestap, assistant FBI director for Counterintelligence)
- that President Obama had ordered the “wiretapping” of Trump Tower (no evidence was found that any Trump property was wiretapped)
- that the FBI had planted a spy in Trump’s election campaign (again, no evidence was found).
In May 2019 Attorney General Barr appointed John Durham to examine whether "any federal official, employee, or any other person or entity violated the law in connection with the law-enforcement activities directed at the 2016 presidential campaigns”. There was much anticipation in Trumpian circles that Durham would uncover evidence of a deep state conspiracy in time for the 2020 presidential election.
As of June 2022 Durham has secured one conviction – a junior FBI lawyer who admitted tampering with an email in a FISA warrant application. That’s all, folks.

The answer is simple, my friend. Just like the Whitewater and Benghazi shit shows the Taliban are hoping Durham can dig up something to tarnish the Democrats before the midterms and 2024. It's part of the Republican/Taliban playbook.

Durham was stymied by not doing a proper investigation. If he had actually looked at facts and for evidence instead of chasing his idiotic conspiracy theories he would have discovered that he had Baker's phone 3 years before he did.
WTF? That was his mandate. To look for crimes committed by the FBI in conducting their investigation.
