I don't expect leaders to "do my will"... I expect them to lead. If he thinks that it is the right thing to do to build the mosque then carry that, or don't weigh in. This reiterating of the 1st, which nobody serious was arguing against, was a sad cop-out and an attempt to back-door it. Lead, follow, or get out of the way. In this thing, he should have just stayed out of the way.herein lies the flaw in yours, and most others, thinking. WE don't elect 'leaders'. WE elect people to do our will. Picture the US of A as a corporation. Picture 'we the people' as it's board of directors. Now picture the president as the CEO of the corp., the house as it's managers/advisors, and the judiciary as it's mediators.
WE don't elect people to 'lead' us, because WE are supposed to be the ones in charge.
You've got it backwards, as usual.
If Muslim Americans are Americans just like you & me, then this mosque wouldn't even be a hint of an issue. But they're not. They're "the enemy." They're "the ones who attacked us." That's what you've been saying, isn't it? You & all of the rest?
You don't get it. What in the world do the Muslims who want to build this center have to do with the villains who attacked us on 9/11?
According to you - everything. Because somehow, it's a big deal if they build a mosque there. Because they aren't really Americans.
I'll bet anything that you & your melodramatic arse still don't get it.
Nothing like having a full-fledged bigot lecture me on "decency"....

Why is your first emotive knee-jerk liberal reaction, that we want GOVERNMENT to do something? About this, or ANYTHING? I think it's remarkable that you automatically (as if programmed) believe that a solution rests with the government!
How about this, I think what Barack Obama said was fine, it was an excellent sentiment to express our principles for religious tolerance, and even the founding principles of religious freedom, I have no problem with what he said... it's what he didn't say! If he had continued on, after the part where he said they should have the right to build the mosque, with the following: But, let me be clear (he always says that), I believe this is an opportunity for the Muslim community to demonstrate respect and compassion for those who lost loved ones in those buildings on 9/11, and as a gesture of this, I would ask that they respectfully consider another location for the community center, or perhaps include Christians and other religions in a joint partnership venture together, and a tribute to our unity as a country and the memory of 9/11.
Had Obama said something along those lines, he would be a national hero today.
If he had said that he'd be an ignorant prick. Muslim's lost loved ones in those buidlings.

Yes, I am sure out of 3,000 people, there were a few Muslims in there too! And let's not forget those poor Muslim hijackers who died a horrible fiery death at Ground Zero.... you pathetic moron!
What the fuck is the matter with you people? Why is it, Christians can't even have a damn Christmas parade, without you whining about the "insensitivity" to others, but you'll practically adopt Islam to be in opposition to the right?
You have ALL become unhinged, unreasonable, incomprehensible fuckwads! You have NO principle that you won't abandon to side against the right, including absolutely forsaking your own goddamn country! And you have the unmitigated gall to parade around with the Constitution you routinely use as toilet paper, LECTURING US about the founding principles and what they mean! It's become a total goddamn JOKE!

You talking about one of your Klan parades, Ditzy?
Regardless, show me a board of directors who have no vested financial interest in the company of which they sit on the board? It's insane, no corporation would EVER implement such an idea, and if they did, they probably wouldn't be in business long.
Your analogy is sound with the exception of that part, which is probably the most important part.

my analogy is quite sound. it's not my fault that the 'progressives' have created an illegal group of directors.

"I believe this is an opportunity for the Muslim community to demonstrate respect and compassion for those who lost loved ones in those buildings on 9/11"
You're talking about Muslims here as though they are not Americans.
I really can't imagine what it must be like to be a Muslim American and hear some of these discussions.
Yep. Especially since Muslims were killed in the attack, just like Christians, Jews, atheists, agnostics, etc.
