My mom grew up around farm country in North Carolina, but her family relocated to Brooklyn when she was in junior high....my pop grew up in the Bronx then Brooklyn. The Long Island suburbs was the compromise, as she wanted the kids to grow up in an area similar to what she knew and were about a 40 minute or less drive from Brooklyn.

The rest of the relations stayed in "the city" because they like it and couldn't see paying the suburban taxes.

We didn't move to the burbs until the my kid brother was born in 1966...I was born in 1958, the middle brother born in 1961...white flight was from 1940 -1970 according to historians.

So it wan't about "following" anyone...black folk do make some choices that doesn't include worrying about people like you or what you think, ya know. Hope this answers your question.

I grew up watching b/w reruns of the old "Dead End Kids" and "East Side Kids/Bowery Boys". Hollywood dealing with the REALITY of poor folk living in urban settings. Cagney, Bogart, Robinson....all had movies portraying poor folk living in crime ridden urban neighborhoods were organized crime (gangsters, MAFIA) were a part of life.

Things got somewhat better, but when black folk started moving in, you had the "white flight" to the suburbs. So now black folk contend with the same conditions (low employment, caste system politics, zoning of wealthy, middle, working poor & poor folk) that white folk did. And jokers like you pretend no white folk in urban areas never commit any type of crime. When that BS is debunked, then the old stat game comes out. Of course, the fact that a mere fraction of 1% of the black population on any level are responsible for the crimes carries no weight. But, apply your logic when it comes to say rape and white crime stats, and you jokers dance like a chicken on a hot plate.

Urban centers have always been fraught with crime regardless of the demographics.

Actually in J.D. Vance’s Hillbilly Eligy he talks about how urban centers have historically been far more crime ridden than rural settings even back in the 18th century. It’s just the nature of the beast I guess.

Agreed, BUT it depends on where you live. A couple I knew from Kentucky came from a small town....they told me tales of how tough that town was that would have your hair stand on end. They as with 100% of the town were caucasians of European descent.

As for the suburbs, yes....less crime, crowding, air pollution. I live in the suburbs of NYC....as do a lot of black folk....living along side all other races. Not a bad place to grow up in...as I did.

The OP gives ONE example of ONE foolish person....NOT a representation of the other 39 million black folk in America.

Amazing how racist assholes uses the slanted and myopic viewpoints of each other to reinforce their point. So going by Todd's stats ALONE, blacks are homicidal and whites are suicidal, while Asians and Hispanics just sit back and watch, shaking their heads.

But

If you're sample group is 100,000 and your stats only reflect a total of about 17%, where the hell is the remaining 83% ... or more to the point who makes that up?
