War with China

“The US increased military operations and took a targeted blockade action, which will only exacerbate tensions and undermine the already fragile ceasefire agreement and further jeopardize safety of passage through the Strait,” Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun told a news conference in Beijing on Tuesday.

“This is dangerous and irresponsible behavior,” he added.

China also vowed to impose “countermeasures” in response to Trump’s threats of new tariffs on its goods entering the United States if Beijing provided military assistance to Iran during its war of aggression against the Islamic Republic.

“If the US insists on using this as an excuse to impose additional tariffs on China, China will definitely take resolute countermeasures,” Guo said.

Bummer. What the fuck will anyone do about it Omar? With no teeth your "international law" is pretty useless.

The Americans don't care about legality, then.

I wonder why they were major participants in the codification of international law, particularly from the late 19th century onward. The U.S. played a leading role in key multilateral efforts to codify rules through treaties, conferences, and institutions, especially in arbitration, laws of war, human rights, and the post-World War II legal order.

The U.S. was a driving force behind the UN's creation. It hosted the San Francisco Conference (April–June 1945), where 50 nations finalized the Charter. Building on the Atlantic Charter (1941, Roosevelt and Churchill), Dumbarton Oaks proposals (1944), and Yalta, the U.S. helped draft key provisions on sovereign equality, prohibition of force, and peaceful dispute settlement. The Senate ratified it overwhelmingly (89–2) in July 1945—the first major power to do so. The Charter itself mandates the "progressive development and codification" of international law (Article 13). The U.S. remains a permanent UN Security Council member.

The U.S. (with the UK, France, and USSR) established the International Military Tribunal via the London Agreement. U.S. Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson served as chief prosecutor. The trials codified principles of individual criminal responsibility for "crimes against peace," war crimes, and crimes against humanity, foundational to modern international criminal law and later tribunals/ICC precedents.

Eleanor Roosevelt chaired the UN Commission on Human Rights drafting committee. The UDHR, adopted unanimously by the General Assembly, is widely regarded as a cornerstone of international human rights law and influenced subsequent treaties.
