Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for those who died in military service. And while our current military is a totally volunteer organization, it was not always that way. In fact, I would wager that more of our military dead (since the holiday was created) were drafted than volunteered.

Bitch at the politicians if you want. But at least treat those who died in military service with a little respect. You may disagree with the wars, but those americans gave up their lives doing something completely selfless.

Then you are oversimplifying the issue and trvializing what they did. The overwhelming majority of those who died in service to their country did not WANT to kill anyone. Be pissed at the politicians who started it. Be pissed at whoever attacked someone to justify it. But being pissed at the soldier who died is like being pissed at the janitor who cleans the offices at BP, because you dislike the oil spill.

Yeah, I know its trendy to try and buck the system. But buck the system that put them there. Not those who served. They were paid peanuts, treated like hell, and endured lousy living conditions before they died. And why? Do you think most joined so they would haqve the opportunity to kill someone? If you do, then you have no grasp of the people who make up our military.

And just one more tidbit. There are quite a few who died in service to our nation that never once killed another human being. There are those who died on rescued or relief missions. But yeah, lump them in with all the rest.

Those who volunteered and died knew that people like wanderingbear exist and did it in part so that people like wanderingbear can remain secure in their philosophy without regard to the harsh reality they had to face. Remembrance Day didn't start until after WW I and then it was in the Commonwealth Nations.

No, they are not murderers. Many are there because they cannot find work outside the forces. They are there to protect the interests of a few unprincipled people who dont give a rats arse for the safety of these men but will reap huge benefits by their death.
They are the foot soldiers of the powerful and if they had a choice, those with brains would prefer a different and more productive lifestyle.

You must be thinking of the British Armed Forces; because the US Military is filled with people who could have very well paying jobs, if they decided to leave the service and go into the private sector.
You have no clue or idea, nor do you obviously want to have any, regarding the US Military.
