WAR PIGS!!!!

Pacifism is the easy route, for it requires that you simply do nothing.

for me....that would be the difficult route

i don't understand pacifism in all its many facets. you can have peace accomplished by violence. it is an unfortunate reality of our world. whether you believe in jesus or not.

True. It would be difficult for you to do nothing, but it would be much more difficult for you to say or do anything of significance.
The man is non-violent. That, in an American, has greater value than all the smart-arse comments by you and your ilk.

Ofcouse not.But I dont need to be violent myself to stop them.

Who would you call to do it for you? Apparently, standing in their way doesn't work when things are already happening. The question was what would you do if it was actually happening, not how would you supposedly stop it from happening.

Does this mean Jesus, Gandhi, Quakers, and other peaceful persons or groups don't deserve respect because they're "doing nothing"?

It really depends on what you mean when you say "doing nothing". When Jesus beat down the people in the Temple, was he "doing nothing"?

Quakers survive by relying on the civility of the nation in which they exist, and their soldiers. Tell me, how long do you think Gandhi would have survived against Genghis Khan? He also depended heavily on the civility of his opponent. The reality is pacifism only works if the opponent is worried about negative PR. There are times when "run" is the appropriate response, or "fight". All living things have a right to defend their lives and that of their families.

How many rapes have the courageous gunlovers on this board prevented by waving their popguns around?
Just wondering.

A better question is, have any of them stepped in to stop a crime at all? It doesn't really matter if they used a gun... I've had to when I worked Security, but that was long ago and hasn't happened much since. However I was never able to do it by just standing there, I always had to use some force.

What about you? Have you ever stopped a crime with the phone?

You should do some research, friend. I don't think that guy is Sohei...

Buddha taught that not even he could stop war, while he teaches against the glorification of war he understood its existence and did not shun Warriors as a caste. Admitting Kings and Warriors into his presence he would speak and teach, some he would urge to give up the Warrior life, others he would not, and then still others he would not allow into his presence until they had completed their military service.

It is complex but Buddhist warriors exist, Buddhist cops, and Buddhists understand that they choose their path and the responsibilities that come with it. Many people make simple assumptions about something complex, they seem to believe it is "easy" and that there is some dogma that all should follow, but Buddha spoke against that. The reality is that Buddhists are found in every walk of life, including the military.

I sometimes wonder what Buddha would have thought of the Shaolin Monks.

True.

Unlike many people, I am aware of the blood-thirst of the Dalai Damocles and his bevy of bang-bang Buddhists.

Im very feramiller with what rape is. That why 1 peace maker has more courage the a million solders.

I question the validity of your statement that 1 peacemaker has more courage than a million soldiers. I am not going to disparage the courage it takes to be a pacifist. I think it is much tougher than people understand. But I think the idea of a "peace maker" is a false one. You cannot force peace. You can be a peaceful man. But you cannot make peace among those who do not want peace. And peaceful resistance only works against violent forces who are either honorable or worried about how they are seen by others. Many violent offenders would prefer a pacifist as a victim. It makes their job easier.

standing there to get shot, beat, or stabbed is not courage. It's stupidity.

I would say being willing to die for your convictions is very courageous. Standing there knowing you will be shot or stabbed takes huge cojones.

My objection whether it actually accomplishes anything.

The war in Iraq, by contrast, has accomplished a lot, hasn't it?

We found all the WMDs and got a source for cheap oil, all at very little cost, didn't we?

I sometimes wonder what Buddha would have thought of the Shaolin Monks.

The Bible pretty much says the same thing: "There will be wars and rumours of war."

Peaceful does not equate to pacifism. While Jesus and Ghandi did not preach violence as the first measure of response, they did not shun it entirely.

Yeah, Christ often used a Glock to smite sinners in His earthly ministry, and as for Ganhdi...

Did I say the Iraq war (or any war) accomplished anything? If all you can do is troll, please sit quietly and let the grownups talk.

What you said was that you objected to pacifism since you didn't see it accomplishing anything. As an adult, I pointed out the corollary.

It's good that you acknowledge the futility of Bush's war. We're making progress, aren't we?
