Putin has been the poster boy for why Ukraine and countries like Georgia SHOULD join NATO. And not because NATO is the best thing since sliced bread, it's because despite it's juvenile, 19th century romantic ideal of All for one, one for all, its the ONLY thing standing between dwindling western values and the reincarnation of a 9th century russian Viking barbarian.

The breakaway regions in Georgia and Ukraine are nothing more than an excuse for russia to hang around and poke a stick at the west. The 3 Ukrainians that live there and want to bend the knee to putin require no "protection" from russia. While its true that we in the west may not represent "freedom and justice", I think most of us represent "pooty poot, shut the fuck up, take your toys and go home, and stop murdering innocents". Yeah, there's a villain here, but there isn't a moral equivalency by any stretch of the imagination. And you're just a chaos agent who hates the west.

You've got is back-asswards. The breakaways happened because of pressure from the Georgian and Ukrainian governments to enforce NATO ideology , in the case of Ukraine- following a NATO-inspired coup.
