In a sane world folks would not try to Eastsplain away an invasion where Russia is razing cities and killing thousands of civilians based on "whataboutism". The bad acts of some soldiers in the Ukraine do not cancel out the war crimes of the invading force.

Agreed. In addition, most of the Ukrainians are taking back their own towns. When they see their unarmed neighbors, women and children slaughtered in the streets with schools and hospitals blown to smithereens, it's reasonable that some would go crazy and shoot the butchers who did it. Not legally correct, but understandable.
