The reason it isn't dumb is that the 2-party system isn't working. The only way a 3rd party gains traction is if enough people stop going w/ the lesser of 2 evils.

My views on the issues would surprise you. Some are certainly screaming lefty, but I've had some pretty spirited discussions on here w/ liberals about my support for privatizing SS, domestic drilling and lower taxes, among other issues.

I would have voted Kasich if he was the GOP nominee. I was an early & vocal supporter (you can find threads on that if you want to search 'em).

It is dumb to vote Libertarian, or any other minor candidate in the final election, since you have zero chance of affecting the outcome.

Depends. I suppose that's true in the case of FL in 2000, or something like that.

It's more about long-term goals. For anyone completely dissatisfied w/ the current 2-party system, it doesn't make any sense whatsoever to keep supporting it, unless there is a candidate they actually like. People say that there is no way we'll ever have a viable 3rd party, but that's only true as long as people choose to think that way. I think individuals can effect change, and it starts by just voting w/ some integrity and not accepting the status quo.

We agree in principle. That's why I vote for my dream candidate in the primary, in an effort to send a message to the beholders of my ideology. But in the final election, I vote for the esser of two evils. Many times I've had to hold my nose in order to do that.

He ended up with almost 20% of the popular vote. I wonder how many of those people would have voted for Poppy Bush in preference to a DEMOCRAT if Big Ears hadn't re-entered the campaign.

In any case, I don't believe a weepy she-male like little Thingy passed up the chance to virtue signal by voting for the first woman president.

Fair enough. Just curious - did you have a dream candidate this past election?

I'd also add on the 3rd party vote that if you're in a state that is completely safe for either the Dem or Republican, you don't really have to do the hold-your-nose thing. Better to make a different kind of statement, imo.

But yeah - in a battleground or close state, I get the reasoning, and used to think like that. I'm just more absolute about it now. Not that I wouldn't vote Dem again if they offered up a good candidate, or even Republican (I don't care if you don't believe me, but I would have voted Kasich enthusiastically over Hillary), but I'd prefer to see our system evolve at this point.

Truth be told, I voted for Perot back then. My reasoning was contempt for both parties. I still think both parties suck, just that the Democrats suck way more. WAY more.

I agree with you about Thing- doesn't add up. He's be braggin' about victory if Shitlery had won. The fact that he's gone full snowflake after Trump won is evidence enough for me.

My dream candidate in '16 was Cruz. Smartest man on the stage, famed debater, not afraid to buck the system, reveres the Constitution and a true blood conservative.

Again, that's really just a projection of your own hackery. A lot of people are not happy about Trump - and they're not just screaming lefty Hillary supporters.

I always think it's funny when people who know nothing about another poster assume that they know their vote. It's just projection, nothing more. And you back that up w/ your statement about always voting party in the actual election.
